INVENTOR ATTORNEY WIT UNITED STATES GUIDO PITONI, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
MOVING AND SOUNDING TOY.
Application filed May 29, 1920, Serial No. 385,254. Renewed August 5, 1921.
To all w 7mm it may concern:
Be it known that'I GUrDo PrroN a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Moving and Sounding Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and has for an object the provision of a toy which is attractive in appearance and which will be especially pleasing to children.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy having figures which represent acrobats and which are adapted to be animated when the toy is operated, the operation being accompanied by the sounding of bells to provide a toy which is pleasing to both the eye and ear.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of a toy embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-1 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the figures.
Fig. 6 is a detail view showing the manner of supporting the figures.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention comprises a pair of spaced substantially parallel arms 10, while positioned between these arms is a spacing bar 11, the ends of which abut the opposed faces of the arms. Secured to the side edges of the bar 11 is an endless band 12, the ends of which are extended to form loops 13, for the reception of the arms 10, the latter being pivotally secured within these loops by ears 1 1. For this means the arms may be moved relatively, being moved in one direction by means of a spring 15 whose ends are connected to each of the arms.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 27, 1921.
Serial No. 490,108.
Secured to each of the arms 10 are spring arms 16, the lower ends of which contact with the arms 10 for a short distance. These spring arms then extend outwardly and up wardly and terminate in a yoke 17 which carries in its upper end eyes 18. The upper ends of the arms 10 are also provided with spaced eyes 19.
Running from the eyes 18 and 19 is a cord or other flexible element 20, the latter serving to connect the upper ends of these arms, while carried by the cord is a number of jointed figures 21 being shown as representing acrobats. In addition to the cord 20 which passes through all of the eyes, an additional cord 22 passes through all of the eyes 19, being connected to the central figure. The figures 21 are provided with spaced openings 23 for the passage of these cords.
Extending from the upper ends of the arms 10 are T-shaped members 24 and secured to these members are bells or other sound devices 25. Other bells or sound devices 26 are also carried by the arms 10, the bar 11 and the flexible element or cord 20.
The lower ends of the arms 10 provide handles and by curving these handles and moving the arms in a manner to separate their upper ends, the figures will be caused to rotate on the flexible elements 20 and 22, while the movement of the device will sound the bells.
' The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A toy comprising spaced substantially parallel relatively movable arms, a spacing bar, means for pivotally connecting the arms to the bar, spring arms carried by and spaced from the movable arms, a spring connecting said movable arms, a flexible ele ment connecting both the movable and spring arms and jointed figures carried by the flexible element.
2. A toy comprising spaced substantially parallel relatively movable arms, a spacing bar, means for pivotally connecting the arms to the bar, spring arms carried by the movable arms, a yoke provided at one end of 5 each of the spring arms, loops formed in the ends of the yokes, to provide spaced eyes, spaced eyes also carried by the movable arms, a spring connecting the last mentioned arms, a flexible element threaded through all of said eyes and jointed figures 10 carried by the flexible element.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GUIDO PITONI.
