Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEROME B. swEETLAND, or PONTIAC, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN-MOTORS.
Specification forming part `of Letters Patent No. 139,208, dated May 20, 1873; application led February 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEROME B. SWEET- LAND, of Pontiac, in the county of Oakland and in t-he State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power for Churns, 8vo.; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description therof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an oscillating power for churns and other purposes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a side elevation; and Fig. 3, a rear view of my invention.
A A represent two cross or saw-buck frames, suitably connected and braced to form the frame-work for holding the various parts forming my machine. In suitable bearings on the frames A A isA supported an oscillating shaft, B, to which is firmly secured a seat, C. From the shaft B extends downward an ann, D, the lower end of which is, by a pitman, E, connected with a crank, a, on a short shaft, b. This shaftcarries on its outer end a large cogwheel, G, which gears with a pinion, d, on one end of' a shaft, H, running parallel with the shafts b and B. 0n the other end of the shaft H is a iy-wheel I, which is provided with a wrist-pin, e, and this wrist-pin by a pitman, J, connectedwith a lever, K, pivoted to the frame, or to an arm on the frame. At or near the outer end of the lever'K may then be at-` rlhe combination of the oscillating seat C, t
provided with the round or handle L and attached to the shaft B, the arm D, pitman E, crank a, and the gearing,'as described, connecting with the lever K and the adiustable foot-rest M, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of December, 1872.
JEROME B. SWEETLAND. Witnesses:
G. X. M. COLLIER, J AMEs OROTTY.
