sterilization Vgenerally being effected ,at the bed-side of the patient, or under other co'nditionsv which render impractical, the use of. sterilizing devices of thesort fund'in lab oratories, physicians ofiices and elsewhere. The foregoing being understood, it may be stated` that it is the object of this inven-v tion tofpro-vide a simple means whereby hy.` podermicl needles may be sterilized, they device being soconstituted that, when the occasion forfitsuse has passed, it( maybe collapsed readily so as to occupybut little spacein the pocket or in the bag of a doctor or nurse.- f

The drawings show ymerely a typical embodiment of the invention, and it is to be understood: that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes lin proportions of parts, and other alterations which a mechanic might make, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention.A

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation disclosing a device constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being collapsed and in the position which it will assume when not in use;

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a fuel-holding base 1 which may be variously constructed. The base 1 preferably is a composite structure, embodying a block 2 of fabric, asbestos or other material which willnot conduct heat readily. The invention comprises'an annular casing'12 threadedasshown atf14'fto cooperate with'the threads f8 ofthe rim 7 ofthe top' 6; At. its lower' end, thecasi'ng 12 may-be'sup; plied with a flange 16, to lthe upper surface of which a washer 17 is secured. Externally, the casing 12 is provided with ribs 15, to the end that the casing may be rotated readily.

When the device is not in use, the casing 12 is threaded downwardly on the rim 7 of the top 6 until theflange 16 abuts against the disk 3 of the base 1, the upper edge of the casing being substantially flush with the upper surface of the part 7 of the top 6. Obviously, the structure, when arranged as above described, is in compact condition, so that it can be carried in the pocket, in a compartment in a case, or elsewhere.

When the article is to be used, the casing 12 is rotated, and since the casing and the top 6 are threaded together as shown at 14-8, the casing will rise until it extends above the top 6, the top thenbecoming the base or bottom of a sterilizing receptacle, the side wall of which is formed by the casing. In the receptacle above defined, water or a sterilizing liquid of any kind may be placed, the needle being immersed in the contents of' the receptacle.
