IMPROVEMENT IN SAMPLE-HOLDERS FOR DISPLAYING BOOTS, 8w.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,044, dated May 20, 1873; application filed March 22, 1873.

The object of my invention is to supply to the trade a sample-holder by which shoes and other samples may be exhibited on the outside of the boxes containing the goods, to be easily attached and detached, and holding the samples firmly thereon.
My invention consists of a spring-holder of strong wire, bent in such a'manner that the same can be rigidly connected to the box, and at the same time the samples quickly be placed on the holder or be taken ofl, the spring action preventing any accidental detaching of the samples.
In the drawing, A represents the box, case, or other object to which the sample-holder B is attached. The sample-holder B, of strong wire, is bent of one piece, and consists of four main parts-the spiral spring a, foot I), guard d, and clamp 6. Spring a is coiled several times to give strong action to the clamp end 0, which is guided by guard-loop d, projecting perpendicularly from the body of holder B. Clamp 6 may be bent either in semicircular shape or elongated shape, according to the nature of the samples to be exhibited thereon. The semicircular shape is applicable to shoes, and the ends f of the upper and lower part of the clamp are bent up, so as to close tightly one over the other.
When gloves or other fancy articles are exhibited, clamp e is narrowed, turned down slightly from the horizontal axis, and the ends of the clamp are bent in the shape of flat eyes, pressing thereby the goods closely between them.
The V-shaped foot b gives a firm base to the holder, and allows a rigid connection to the boxes. Guard d secures the return of the clamp e to its proper place, so that the clampbar cannot be bent or work loosely. The holder forms a convenient and safe attachment for the exhibition of samples of all kinds on boxes which are placed in stores.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The sample-holder B, of wire, having clamp ends 6, spring a, foot b, and guard 11, substantially as and for the purpose described.
