I fiza@ W !amazon UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND UEBEL, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
IMPRQVEMENT IN GAME-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,961, dated May 13, 1873; application filed February 5, 1873. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND UEBEL, of the city of Cedar Rapids, county of Linn, State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Table for the purpose of public and parlor amusement'; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of :my invention consists in constructing a table, say about nine and one-half feet long by three and one-half feet in width, and of ordinary height, or the whole proportionately less, the skeleton or frame being similar to a bagatelle or pigeon-hole table.
I provide the bottom of my table with two apartments, A and B, by the erection of an arch, C, having three openings, D. In apartment A, at the head of the table, in either corner, is an arch, E, the openings of which are of the same size as those inthe dividing arch D. In apartment Ais planted a star, X, of proportionate size, bearing thirteen numbers, the larger denominated 100, and situated in the center of the star; the remaining twelve,
' denominated 10, six of which are placed in the depressions of the star and six upon the points of the star; within the arches E are placed the largest numbers, denominated 1,000. In apartment B are planted two stars, Y and Z, the one, Y, being equal in size to the one, X, having thereon the same amount of numbers, of larger denominations, and placed in a similar manner, the center number being denominated 250 and the remaining numbers 25. The star Z is planted at the lower end of the table, and is one-fourth larger in size than those X and Y. Upon this star is placed nineteen numbers, the larger number being in the center, and denominated 500 3 the remaining numbers are denominated 50, six of which are placed upon the several points of the star, the remaining twelve numbers being placed on either of the points of the star, and at equal distance from' the depressions and extreme points of the star. Over the center of this star is erected a castle, F, having six pillars,
the bases of which rest immediately in the depressions of the star; the six entrances G being of the same size of those of the dividing arch D. Upon the numbers of each star, and upon the numbers within the arches E, is placed a pin, the larger pins being placed upon the center figures of the stars and the numbers within the arches E. In the center of the head-piece O, and at equal distance from either corner, is cut a slot, M, running to the bottom of the table; at the bottom of this slot, and inside the table, is fastened a small wooden collar, N. Upon the top of the end-piece O,
and immediately to the right of the slot, is i fastened a metal collar, P, corresponding in size and position to the wooden collar N. A stem-top of ordinary size, for which I claim no patent, having a strong string wound about the longer stem, is placed within the collars, the end of the string extending through to the outside of the slot. By pulling this string with a steady andstrong force, the top is made to leave its position in the collars, and, spinning upon the longer stem, knocks down, as chance may direct, the'pins which stand in its way in the different apartments of the, table.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An oblong table, rounded at one end, having its head-piece O at right angles to sides, and having an upwardly -projecting flange there-around, to adapt it for the use specified.
2. The arch, O, having three openings, D, the corner-arches E, E at rear of table, having openings of the .same size; and the castle, 1 having six pillars, with equal and similar openings, all arranged as described, on afloor having the notated stars, X Y Z, and within the flange of table, as and for the purpose described.
3. The wooden collar at the foot of slot, and the metallic collar P, applied together to the head-piece having slot m, and in connection with the flanged table, as described, to enable the top to be conveniently operated.
