YAlRN-FEED FOR KNITTING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent. "Patented Aug. 23, 1921- Applieation filed January 14, 1919. Serial No. 271,128.
" To all whom it may concern:
.. of which the following is a specification.
' in Scott My invention relates to yarn-feeding means for knitting machines; the object of my invention being to provide a construction whereby the feed of the yarn to the needles may be-controlled with great exactitude. My invention is especially useful in machines for doing plaiting work, where a variation in the manner of feeding the yarns to the needles makes a considerable difference in the plaiting effect.
My invention is a modification of the yarn feeding means describedand claimed in the patent of F. C. Nicholson, July 6, 1920, No. 1,346,049.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a skeleton plan view, illustrating the application of my invention to a rotary knitting machine. r
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
The needles are indicated at n in Fig. 2, while at F I have indicated a yarn-feeding finger, which is freely pivoted upon a crosspin 2 in the arched portion 15 of the latch ring R, this latter being pivoted at 1.6 to the frame in any usual or suitable manner.
A thrust bar 460, acting on the under side of the pivoted yarn finger F, as described s Patent, No. 1,150,547 datedAugust 17, 1915, may be employed to raise the latter up out of feeding relation to the needles,-
against the pull of a spiral spring 8', which at one end'is connected to the yarn finger and at the other is connected to the cross' pivot'pin 16.
The yarn-finger F has a slot 6 through which the pivot pin .19 passes, and I provide in connection therewith screw means whereby the yarn finger F. may be adjusted toward or from the line of needles. As shown in the drawing, 1 secure a bracket 20 to the arch 15, as by the screw 17, which secures the fixed thread guide 18 to this arch. In this bracket is threaded an adjusting screw 21 in a position to bear against the rounded rear end of the yarn finger F, so that by turning this screw in one direction the yarn finger may be adjusted toward the needles, or by adjusting it in the other direction, the spring 8 will draw the finger away from the needles. A set nut 22 may be used to secure the screw 21 in adjusted position.
By the described screw adjustment, the forward end of the yarn finger'may be set in such position as to secure the best results in plaiting or other knitting operation.
l. A knitting machine having needles and a yarn feeding finger therefor having a rounded rear end in combination with screw means to bear against the rear end of the yarn finger to adjust the yarn finger toward or from the needles.
2. A knitting machine having needles and a pivoted yarn feeding finger therefor having a rounded rear end in combination with an adjusting screw to bear against the rear end of the yarn'finger and a spring, whereby the finger may be adjusted toward or from the needles.
3. A knitting machine having needles, a slotted yarn finger having a rounded rear end and pivot pin passing through the slot in combination with a screw means to act on the rear end of the finger and a spring tending to draw the finger up to the adjustin screw, for the purpose set forth.
n testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
