My invention relates` to full fashioned knitting machines, and particularly to improved loop-regulating mechanism therefor as yfully set forth in connection with the ac- 5 companying drawings, and the novel features of which are clearly defined in the subjoined claims. l

The known needle-bar presser mechanism indicated comprises loop-regulating shaft 10, to which known cani-determined turning movements are imparted from the cam shaft 11 (as shown for instance in my prior Patent No. 1,417,289,May 23, 1922) andtransmitted tothe pivotally carried needle-bar 12, through presser lever 13 and connection 14; such known movements being used, fas is the supplemental movement provided for by 50 my present invention, for variedly positioning the needle-bar relative to the sinkers, so

The present invention merely provides in connection with these commonly used mechanisms, additional loop-regulating means as hereinafter fully described'.
In the construction indicated the cam shaft 1l is employed as heretofore to` control positionings of the needle-bar 12 bly means of selectively operating cams thereon,
not illustrated; my present invention being adapted to effect additional positionings for slightly increasing the lengths of determined loops which receive an eXtra yarn, as for instance in forming a determined heel highsplice or a selvage reenforcement.
As illustrated the laying of an eXtra thread to determined needles only is coinmonly controlled in well known manner by either the usual narrowing screwV nut or special stop nuts iO-71 indicated in Fig. 4l, which nuts act to determinedly stop the yarn-carrying rods. Such nuts are also utilized in my improved mechanism to corre'- spondingly control the additional looplengthening action which is derived from the longitudinally reciprocated member 17 through` my supplemental loop-regulating mechanism.
This supplemental mechanism forutilizing the reciprocating movement of the ineinber 17, comprises, as shown, a supplementary presser-frame25` carried .by a longitudinal pivot shaft 25 mounted in main- frame brackets 27, 27 and provided with a rigid top (Sii The reciprocating slide-box member 17 which l utilize to impart the desired special rocking movements to needle bar 12, is provided with a pivotally carried depending wedge-'piece 35, the outer face of which is arranged to slidiiigly bear against the vertical wall 28@l of the longitudinal presser-bar 2S as shown most clearly in Fig. 1; and this wedge-piece 35 is pressed outward so as to slightly rock the presser-bar 28 as the inner face of the reciprocating wedge-piece 35 is brought into contact with coacting wedge blocks 37, 37 mounted upon a guide bar 33 fixedly supported by center-bed brackets 39, 39.y These wedge blocks 37, 37 are automatically adjusted upon the guide bar 38 as described in connection with F ig. e, and the rocking movement of the bar 23' is transmitted tothe loop-regulating shaft 10y and needle bar 1Q, through a connected arm 31.
T he wedge- block devices 37, 37 are secured to separate extension rods 40,' 40 which are respectively attachable to the y oppositely moving nuts of the yarn-stop screws-ns indicated in Fig. d and hereinafter further describedmso as to be automatically positioned relatively upon their guide bar 38 in accord with the positions of the connected nuts and the yarn-feed lingers controlled by the latter. ln connection with the adjustable devices 37, 37 an extension portion 37"L is provided between them so to be moved to and fro' ahead of the depending wedge piece 35 of reciprocating member` 17. rhis extension device 37a is employed to insure proper cooperation with the usual sinlreroperating slur-cock which is reciprocated with member 17; its length corresponding with that of the straight-face part of the slur-cock, and' its movement on the guide bar 38 adding such length successively to the respective devices 37, 37 as will be understood to be practically required because of the reverse movements of the slur-cock.
The pivoted presser-arm 31 of presser1- frame 25 is'provided at its forward end with an adjustable contact point 31a for engaging the opposed face of a contact stud 46 in the regulating-shaft arm 47, to thereby impart a turning movement to said shaft when the presser-frame is rocked by the reciprocating member 17; and said arm 31 has a projecAL tion 311 which rides upon the periphery of a special cam L18 on the cam shaft 11 so as to hold the point 311L in raised position above the contact stud 46 excepting when cam depressionv 48 permits of its being turned to operative position by spring 50. During the inoperative positioning of the point 31a the ordinary turning movements may be freely imparted to the loop-regulating shaft 10 from cam shaft 11 (by usual cams not shown) and my special mechanism for imparting additional turning movements thereto from reciprocating member 17 through the pivotally carried member 28 acts only when contact point 31a is lowered by cam 48 as stated. To provide that this lowering movement may freely occur the arm 31 is preliminarily movedlongitudinally by a cam projection 60 on shaft 11; said projection engaging an anti-friction roller 61 adjustably fixed to said arm 31.
The lengtlieningof the particular loops through which an extra yarn is to be drawn, is effected by correspondingly moving the needle bar 12 rearward for the periodsr only during which said yarnis being carried to and formed by the determined needles and suikers; so that it is necessary in utilizing .the uniformly reciprocated member 17 to properlyV effect such periodic movements of theneedle bar, to make its movements effective upon the presser-frame 25V only during corresponding periods of each reciprocation; and where the periods are required to vary in different courses, either in correspondence withv the narrowing of the fabric as in the knitting of a reenforced selvage edge or in desiredly shaping ai reenforcement or plating, it is practically essentialA thatthe spacing of the devices 37-37 which effect the lengthening of the loops, be automati'cah ly varied accordingly through the connecting rods d0, 40.
In Fig, et l have diagrammatically indicated these devices E7-37, in connection with two different ways of automatically adjusting the Asame through their connecting rods 40, 10.` To eiiect their automaticspa'c-k ing in accord with the narrowing of the fabric, one device 37 has its rod 40 operatively connected tov the usual stop nut 65 on screw 66, while theV other is similarly con'-v nected to a stop nut at the opposite end'of the machine (not shown). vIf it is desired to effect an automatic adjustment of the loop-regulating devices 37-37 irrespective of the narrowing of the fabric, these devices are connected to independentoperating means; as indicated bythe reversely traversed nuts -'71 on the intermittently rotated screw 72; each of the'sevnuts being' operatively attachable, (as through rods '80, 81), to the respective' devices 37, 37 instead of connecting the latter to the stop nuts 65,
as previously set forth. The reversely traversed nuts 70, 71 also control the travelV lOl) for said presser mechanism actuated by said reciprocative member, and a cam on said Vshaft adapted-to determinedly `make said supplemental operating means ineffective.

In a full-fashioned knitting machine Vhaving a rotary` cam shaft, yarn-carrier mechanism comprisinga longitudinally reciprocated yarn control member, and a needle-bar presser mechanism operative by said cam shaft; supplemental needle-bar presser mechanismoperated by said reciprocated yarn-control y member. In a full-fashioned knitting machine having a rotary cam shaft, yarn-carrier mechanism comprisingl a longitudinally reciprocated yarn control member, and a needle-bar presser mechanism operative by said cam shaft; supplemental operating means for said presser mechanism actuated by said reciprocated yarn-control member.
4. In a full-fashioned knitting machine having a rotary cam shaft, yarn-carrier mechanism comprising a longitudinally reciprocated yarn control member, and a needle-bar presser mechanism operative `by said cam shaft; supplemental operating means for said presser mechanism actuated by said reciprocated yarn-control member, and cam-shaft means for rendering said supplemental means operative or inoperative.
5. In a full-fashioned knitting machine comprising a needle-bar and presser mechanism therefor, yarn-carrier rods and stop nuts therefor, and a longitudinally reciprocated yarn-control member; a supplemental presser member operated by said reciprocated member, and devices movable With said stop nuts to vary the operation of said supplemental presser member.
6. In a full-fashioned knitting machine comprising a needle-bar and presser mechanism therefor, eXtrayarn-carrier rods with special stop-nuts therefor, and a longitudinally reciprocated yarn-control member; a supplemental presser member operative by said reciprocated yarn control member, and movable devices for varying such operation connected to said special stop nuts.
7 In a full-fashioned knitting machine, the combination with yarn-control mechanism comprising stop nuts and a longitudinally reciprocated member; of loop-regulating mechanism comprising a needle-bar presser member operated by said reciprocated yarn-control member, land. devices movable With said stop nuts to determinedly vary said operation.
