Description
G. A. BROWN.
Paper Gollavs. v N0. 138,849. Patented May13,1873.
AM. PHOTO-LITHUGRAPHIC m MWJOSBLWNEIE PRDLESSI) UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
CHARLES A. BROWN, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
lMPROVEMENT IN PAPER COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,849, dated May 13, 1873; application filed December 14, 1872. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. BROWN,
of the city of Troy, Bensselaer county, New York, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Paper and Paper and Oloth Collars, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms folded in part, as more fully hereinafter described.
I am aware that the outer edges of paper and paper and cloth collars have heretofore been folded for the purpose of presenting a smooth and finished surface to view when the collar is worn;'but my invention consists in making the ends double beyond the fold of the band, so as to present a smooth and finished corner, as hereinafter described.
The collar-blank, shown at all the figures, is cut in the usual manner from paper, or cloth and paper, andof substantially the form shown at Fig. 2 of accompanying drawing.
A, at all the figures, represents that part of the blank forming the body of the collar B and B, and these portions of the blank formin g, when properly folded, the collar-band, shown folded at Fig. 4. O and G, at all the figures, represent those portions of the blank which are folded under the ends of the collar. These pieces 0 and G, which form the double edges of the ends of the collar, extend beyond the crease which forms the fold between the collarand the band; the object of this extension of the pieces G and G forming the double edges of the ends, as herein described, is that it makes a more perfect finish to the points where the collar is folded over the band, and, by being folded in the band, the said pieces 0 and O are firmly held in their proper position.
It is obvious that the use of these extra pieces Will necessitate some different construction of the band of the collar than that generally in use, and the use of the double band, shown in accompanying drawing, is, perhaps, the best band to use in connection with said extended end pieces, hereinbefore described; but, if desired, the same object maybe accomplished by pasting the band B to the body of the collar A, or by the fastening of suitablyshaped button-hole tags to the collar-band B, either of which modes allows of the successful use of the pieces 0 and C, folding into the band B and beyond the crease between the band B and collar A, as hereinbefore described.
In accompanying drawing are clearly shown the shape of the blank, the creases forming the folds, and the blank partly and wholly folded until forming the complete collar, shown at Fig. 1.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A paper or a cloth and paper collar with the extra pieces 0 and C, forming the double edges of the ends of the collar when extending beyond, and folded in the crease between the collar and the band, as herein described.
Witness my hand this 20th dayof November, A. I). 1872.
CHAS. A. BROWN.
