Description
T. F. BOLIG.
LINE BUCKLE.
APPLICATION FILED mums. 1919.
Patented Aug. 23, 1921.
///I V/A/A UNITED STATES THOMASF. some, OFHIBELLEVU'E, OHIO.
LINE-BUCKLE.
"Specification of LettersjPatent.
Application .filed April 23, 1919. Serial No. 292,081.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. BOLIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellevue, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Line-Buckle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in line buckles for double harness, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character so constructed that the socalled dead end of the cross line is completely inclosed, whereby there are no projecting parts to catch into fly nets, and in the use of which device a minimum number of openings are required to be punched in the lines.
A further object of the invention is to generally improve and simplify the construction of devices of the character set forth and at the same time provide a buckle that is highly efficient in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, "which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification,
Figure l is a plan View showing my improved buckle attached to the hand and cross lines of a set of double harness, the lines being shown broken away;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line 8-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on the line 4lt of Fig. 2.
The same characters of reference designate the same parts in the different figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, 2 designates a hand line and 3 a cross line. My improved buckle comprises a base 4, which may be provided with openings 5 therethrough for lightening the structure, and which base is adapted to underlie the lines. The base is provided at one end thereof with a loop member formed of a pair of upstanding sides 6 and a cross member 6', thereby forming an opening between the base and the cross member 6' of suflicient width to accommodate both the hand line and cross line, as shown in Fig. 2. At its opposite end the base is formed with an upstanding portion 7 spaced apart from the top cross member 8 a suflicient distance to accommodate only the hand line, and. this cross member is connected with the base by a pair of side members or lugs 9 merging into the base and projecting upwardly at the sides of the base, the contour of the upper edges of the lugs being approximately ogee. By this construction lateral shifting of the free or dead end of the cross line 3 is prevented, and between the lugs and the upturned end of the base member a housing is provided in which such free end of the line is entirely inclosed, whereby it is protected and prevented from catching in fly nets, etc. The base is provided approximately at the center thereof with a single upstanding cylindrical lug 10 adapted to engage an opening in both the hand and cross lines, as shown in Fig. 2, for preventing withdrawal thereof from the buckle. By the provision of a single lug, a minimum number of perforations are necessary in the lines, and at the same time such lines are securely held in the buckle.
While I have described in detail the structure herein illustrated, it is to be understood that I do not thereby limit my invention to the recise features of constructionshown, as am aware that many mechanical changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A buckle comprising a base provided at its ends with first and second terminal members disposed at right angles to the base, the terminal members having openings, the axes of which are parallel to the base, the opening in the firs t member terminating at the base, and the opening in the second member being approximately one-half the height of the opening in the first member and terminating in spaced relation to the base thereby to form a transverse flange, side lugs being formed integrally with the second member and with the base and cooperating with the transverse flange to form a pocket for one end of one of two straps, both of which extend through the opening in the first member, the other of which straps extends through the opening of the second l Patented Aug. 2 13, 1921.3
