REIN HOLD ENGELBRECI-IT, OF ESSEN-EUHR, GERMANY.
BUTTON'.v
Application filed July 24,
To all w hom t may con cern Be it known that I, REINHOLD ENGEL- nnncHT, a citizen of Germany, residing at Essen-Ruhr, Germany, have invented an Improved Button, for which I lfiled an application in Germany, Nov. 26, 1918, and oil which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improved button of the kind, consisting of a button-base,
a button-head adapted to be introduced through a button-hole and a button neck or stay uniting the said head to the said base. The novel feature of my improved button consists in giving both the head and the base-portion the shape of a woolder or packing-stick, both the said parts being either firmly secured to the neck or stay or one or both of them being pivoted to said neck or stay: the position of said woolders being at right angles to each other, if' the said woolders are rigidly secured to or integral with the neck of the button. The base-woolderoi1 the button should in all cases exceed the length of the button-hole, to prevent its slipping out spontaneously.
n the accompanying drawing l have illustrated a specimen of my improved button in perspective view.
a is the base, Z9 the head and c the neck or stay of the button.
The advantages derived from said construction of a button formed with two woolders are the following:
The length of each woolder may be almost double the length of the corresponding button-hole.
Hence, the button-holes can be made shorter than was hitherto practicable.
Owing to the shape and position of the base a the head c, may be made to tilt on the neck or stay c, and thereby my improved Specification of Letters Patent.

button may be as conveniently and easily employed with any article to be buttoned, as buttoning can be done with buttons secured by sewing.
The new button Owing to the shape of the base-part may be easily and conveniently inltroduced into the button-holes of any articles and, then, the upper or opposed buttonhole may be easily slipped over the head of the button, set at right angles thereto.
A further advantage consists in that, after introducing the head of the button into the iirst button-hole, all further button-holes may be secured on the corresponding button-heads by drawing them over said heads. Buttoning, thereby, is greatly facilitated, as the hand is easier adapted to manipulate the fabrics of the button-hole, than a comparatively small button.
In washing or, in general, in cleaning clothes and other articles the buttons may be easily removed before the cleaning operation, and as readily replaced afterward.
rEhe new button of my invention is applicable to all articles which are buttoned, including gloves, shoes and the like, as also bed-linen, urniture-coverings, etc. The shape and size of the button vary according to the use oit the button.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A button comprising a head, a base, and a stay connecting said head and base, the said head and base forming woolders arranged at right angles to each other.
2. A button, as specified in claim l, in which the woolder 'forming the base is longer than the woolder forming the head.
In testimony whereof l have ah'ixed my signature in presence oi two witnesses.
REINHOLD ENGELBRECHT.
