Description
J. L. KOTYN EK. GRINDING IMPLEMENT. APPLICATION HLED NOV. 15. 1919.
1,386,181. PatentedAug- 2,1921.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. KOTYNEK, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
GRINDING IMPLEMENT.
Application filed November 15, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may 0012 cam Be it known that I, JOHN L. KoTYNnK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and Stateof Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grinding Imple ments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in grinding implements and the object of the invention is the provision of a simple, cheap and durable implement operated by the foot to rotate a grinding, buffing, emery or other wheel or tool which implement will be thoroughly efficient, desirable and practical in every particular.
To attain the desired object, my invention consists of a foot-operated tool of the character and for the purpose stated, embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a foot operated implement, constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2 represents a side or edge elevation of the complete implement.
The implement as a whole comprises few parts, consisting of a clamp A, formed integral with the vertical open frame B, which frame is provided with an extension C, and a depending arm or bracket D, upon which bracket is fulcrumed at E, the lever F, having connected to its lower portion the adjustable treadle G, and havlng its upper portion formed with an open or yoke-shaped head H, in which is adapted to travel the in J, on crank J, secured upon the shaft l2, upon which is rigidly secured the large driving gear wheel L, meshing with the pinion M, on shaft N, journaled in extension C of the frame, and carrying upon its inner end a grinding wheel 0, although any other implement or device may be used which would operate for a desired function.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 1921.
Serial No. 338,148.
From the drawings and description, the operation of my implement will be readily understood, and the lever is reciprocated or rocked by the foot treadle, which rocking actlon through the medium of the yokeshaped head of the lever, rotates the large driving gear which, in turn, rapidly revolves the pinion carrying the grinding wheel or other device and performs the function of grinding, buffing, polishing, or in fact any other service which a rotary wheel or device would accomplish.
It is evident that I provide animplement which will perform its functions in an efficient and desirable manner and which will fill a long-felt want for a foot-operated implement of this character.
I claim:
The combination with a casing having a horizontally disposed rotatable shaft therein provided with a rotatable element, said casing having a supporting bracket adjacent the lower sides thereof, of a foot actuated treadle for operating said shaft, said treadle being pivotally mounted on a downwardly extending arm extending downwardly from the lower end of the casing and located below the casing supporting bracket, the upper end of the treadle being provided with an elongated slot, an arm having a crank pin carried by said rotatable shaft, said crank pin being disposed in the elongated slot of the treadle, said casing carried shaft being disposed above the casing supported bracket and a foot engaging member carried by the lower end of the treadle and forming means whereby the treadle may be rocked on its pivotal point for rotating the shaft within the casing.
In testimony whereof I aflii; my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN L. KOTYNEK.
Vitnesses J. V. MARTIN, E. KERR.
