IMPROVEMENT lN INSULATORS FOR TELEGRAPH-LINES.
S-ecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,512, dated May 6, 1873; application led October 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. MERRELL, of East Lyme, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Telegraph'Insulators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is au elevation or View of the complete insulator. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view of the insulator with its cap removed. Fig. 4 is a view looking into the cap, which is turned upside down.
The insulator is made of glass or other nonconducting material, and is composed of the body A and the cap B which tits upon the body A. There is a groove, a, in the top of the body, in which lies the wire C. This 'groove is curved so as to hold the wire hrm from slipping sidewise.J The cap B lits down upon the top of the body A and holds the wire down. This cap has half-circular grooves b out into it where the wire passes out. The other half of the wire sets into the body A. The letter D indicates a screw-bolt, which passes down through the cap B and body A and screws into the common wooden pin, which pin fits up into the recess S.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe body A, made of insulating material, having the cavity S for a. supporting-pin and the curved groove a, the cap B made of insulating material and the screw-bolt D, the whole constructed, arranged, and designed for use, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
