States, and resident of Walpole in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Clamp-Buckles, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying'drawings, is a speclfication, like letters on the drawings .IOPPG'. senting like parts. a present invention relates to clamp v specification of Lenora Patent. buckles, belt connectors, and the like, andmore particularly to a device of this character capable of connecting the ends of a belt, or analogous structure, passing over pulleys.
In the'manufacture of brake lining, it is the practice to make the same in various lengths and to then pass these lengths of lining through a treating bath in the further process of manufacturing. The length, of'linin is run over pulleys, the treatlng bath being located intermediate such pulleys, and due primarily to the; relatively greatlength of the lining, the said lining is subjected to considerable tension by the ulleys, so much so that heretofore it has been necessary to overlap the ends of the brake lining about four inches and rivet the ends together. As these riveted ends cannot be made usable when thus .riveted together, they are waste and must be cut oil the finished product. As these ends repre sent considerable outlay of money, it is desirable that means be devised for saving them, and as the only possible way of doing this is to eliminate the necessity for overlapping, various devices have' been proposed for temporarily holding the ends together without overlapping and without rivets. Such devices have included various forms of commercial belt clasps and buckles, all of which have failed. The

Referring to the drawing, 10 and 11 designate bars having their ends 12, 13 and 14:, 15 respectively, bent up at right angles, to form substantially U-shaped members, said ends being cut away to form cooperating hinge members 16 and 17. Slidably mounted .on the ends 12, 1 3 and 14:, 15 are members composed of a plate 18, provided with teeth 19, extensions 20 at the ends of said plate 18 being folded about the ends 12, 13
and 14, 15, as clearly shown in the drawings.
The teeth 19 lie in a plane m'akin an angle with the plate 18, the teeth belng long enough to engage with the bars 10 and 11, as clear Y shown in Fig. 2. A bar 21, separated from and lying parallel to the plate 18, at the side remote from the teeth 19, is connected to said plate in. any suitable manner, while an angular plate 22, also separated from and lying parallel to the plate, 18, adjacent the teeth 19, is connected to the plate 18 in any suitable manner.
