Abstract

A fabric band, e.g. a dry felt band or a sieve for use in the paper industry, with joined ends 1, 2 is produced by making a belt having both longitudinal and transverse threads, removing or omitting the transverse threads 5 from each of two regions 7 adjacent the ends 1, 2, folding over each end 1, 2 in the region 7 such that the longitudinal threads form a set of loops 6, interdigitating at least one wire spiral 9 having a substantially oval cross-section with both sets of loops 6 and inserting a hinge pin 11 between each set of loops and the interdigitated parts of the convolutions of the spiral 9. The thickness of the spiral 9 and the hinge pins 11 is less than the thickness of each end 1, 2. In another embodiment (not shown), the flexibility of the joint is increased by using two spirals flexibly joined by a hinge pin.
