I N V EN TOR. Oiio Zfledzzzazl ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES OTTO WEDMAN, 0F TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
STRING-CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1921.
Application filed January 3, 1920. Serial No. 349,233.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro IVEDMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in StringCutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for cutting cord and is especially adapted for cutting the cord used in wrapping bundles, so as to save the hands of the wrapper from in jury due to constantly breaking the cord.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel form of cutter, which is formed from a single piece of material secured to a ring or holder and bent to provide a base, a knife or cutting edge and a guide, whereby the cord will be directed against the cutting edge.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a ring of suitable size and configuration, which is indicated at 10. This ring is adapted to be worn upon thefinger of a person tying a bundle, or otherwise using a cord or string, which is necessary from time to time to sever. The ring 10 carries a cutting member 11, which is preferably formed from a single piece of material and is bent to provide a base 12 which is shaped to conform to the outer periphery of the ring 10. Extending from the base 12 is an arm 13 and one end of this arm is curved or notched and provided with a cutting edge 14, which is adapted to be used for severing the cord or 1 string or the like and which may be readily worn upon the finger, so as to be in convenient position for use.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is here in reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A cord cutter embodying a ring, a cutting member made from a single piece of material and comprising a base shaped to conform to the periphery of the ring and secured to said ring, an arm extending from one side edge of the base and disposed radially of the ring, said arm having its flat face substantially flush with one edge of the ring and its outer end bent over and extending inward to form a curved guide and a cutting edge formed on one side edge of the arm between the ring and guide, said edge being defined by a plane parallel to the plane defined by the edge of the ring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
