To all whom t may concern it known that l, ARTHUR M. Hoon, a citizen oic the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State ot indiana, have invented a new and useful Tire-Bound Coop, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
The object ot' my invention is to produce a wirebound box or crate equipped with sliding doors, the construction being such that comparatively light, cheap material may be utilized and the sliding doors readily associated with the other material at the time of production of the fold-able blank. The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention. Figure 1 is a perspective view of the completed crate or box in such form as to be convenient for use in handling poultry; Fig. 2 a plan of the middle portion of the door section; Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 2 showing one of the doors open.; Fig. e a section on line efr-A of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 a section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3; Fig. 6 a plan of the complete blank in the flat; and Fig. 7 a perspective View oi the completed crate or box, showing the binding wires er'- tending across but not attached to the doors. in the drawings, 1G indicates a series of slats connected at their ends by cross bars 11 which are arranged in pairs upon opposite faces of the slats and have a length exceeding the width of the space occupied by the slats, these slats being conveniently separated a distance slightly greater' than the width of the slats. 12 indicates a series of slats interdigitated between slats 10, and these slats 12 are connected at their ends by cross bars 13 arranged in pairs and having lengths substantially equal to the lengths of bars 11, one of the pairs of bars 13 lying between the two pairs of bars. The door structure just described will be made up as a separate unit and in order that the parts may slide readily it is desirable that one set of bars, as, for instance, the bars 10, be slightly thicker than the other set, as indicated in Fig. 5. In that case, thin shims will be placed under those bars 13 which lie between the bars 11 in order to permit the bars 10 to slide freely between those bars 13. The door-carrying section of the crate will comprise end cleats 15, 15, a cen- ,ctral intermediate cleat 16, and if the crate is of considerable length, intermediate cleats 17, 17, all of these cleats preferably being Specification of Letters Ratent.

formed at their ends for mating engagement with cleats of an adjacent section of the blank, as, for instance, with mortise and tenon ends. 1f the intermediate cleats 17 are used, they will be provided upon their outer edges at suitable points with notches 18 which willr permit the passage of the under cross bars 13 or 11, as clearly indicated in Fig. 5. ln assembling the blank and assuming the door-carrying section `to be one of the initial sections of the blank, the slats 19 will be applied to thecleats l5, 16 and 17 and held thereon by the usual staples 20 and connecting binding wires 21. lWhen the proper point has been reached, the door section, comprising the two doors, will have associated therewith two of the slats 19, as indicated in Fig. 3, and these two slats 19 with the intermediate door sections, will be attached to the cleats in the same manner,the intermediate binding wires, if desired, passing over the door sections, but the staples being omitted. The operation will, ot course, be exactly the same even though the door-carrying section be an intermediate section of the blank, as shown in Fig. 6. Flanking the door-carrying section are the two side sections S, S (Fig. Gland comprising cleats 15, 16 and 17 corresponding with the cleats of the doorcarrying section, and also comprising slats 19. rlhe bottom section B comprises cleats 15, 16 and 17 and bottom boards 22, the several elements being associated by means of the staples 520 and binding wires 21, the parts being assembled in the fiat, as indicated in Fig. 6. With the blank thus formed. the parts may be folded in the usual manner to form the top, bottom and two sides of the box or crate, the cleats engaging each other in the usual manner and binding wires serving to hold the parts firmly bound together, the adjacent ends of these binding Wires being twisted together in the usual manner, if desired.
1t will be understood that the intermediate cleats 17 of the sides and bottom need not be notched in the manner in `which they are notched for the top section T. Suitable end sections Fl may then be placed and secured to the inner faces of the end cleats 15 and, if desired, partition slats F may be secured to the intermediate series of cleats 16. ln order to facilitate the sliding of the door sections, the intermediate bin ding wires 20, if they have been projected across the door sections, may be cut away, as indicated in the drawings.
1t willbe noticed that by the construction shown, the door-carrying section is, within itself,l rigid so that no additional cleats need be provided in order to make the door-carry ing member sufficiently rigid.
I claim 'as my invention:
1. A wireboun'dbox or crate blank, comprising' a. plurality of .independent cleated sections foldably associated by means of binding wires, one of said sections comprising two parallel members lying transversely of the binding wires and held in spaced relation by cleats associated with said members and the binding wires, and two interdigitated sliding doors lying between the spaced members and interlocked therewith, said doors being slidable in opposite directions between and parallel with the parallel members. i

A wirebound box or crate blank, comprising independent cleated sections foldably associated by means of binding wires, one of said sections comprising two substantially parallel members held in spaced relationship by cleats, and a slidable door` section slidable between and parallel with the substantially parallel members and associated therebetween at the time the binding wires, cleats and parallel members are connected together. l n

A wirebound box or crate blank comprising a bottom section, two side sections, and a top section, said several sections being connected and bound together by binding wiresv in such manner that the sections may be folded together to form a container; one of said sections comprising two slidable integral door sections interdigitated with eachother. and interlocked with adjacent portions of said sections and associated with the adjacent portions of the section at the time of assembly of the sections into blank form.
