JAMES A. ALLEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRAMES FOR WINDOW-AWNINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,223, dated April 29, 1873; application filed February 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. ALLEN, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Frames for WVindow-Awnin gs, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a portable metallic frame having the awning and all the fixtures for lowering and elevating the same in connection therewith, in combination with the window-frame, in such a manner that the said metallicconnecting-frame may be expeditiously removed when the awning is not wanted in use, and with the same expedition be placed in position when required.
Figure 1 is an inside face view of a windowframe with an awning and the improvements in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a vertical section at the line :0 w of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, Sheet No. 2, is an isometrical view of the connecting-frame (J.
Like letters in all the figures indicate the same parts.
A is a window-frame; B,the awning; and G, a metallic frame for connecting the latter to the window-frame. The inner edgeof the awning B is sewed or otherwise fastened to the frame. The upper part a of the'frame rests in hooks D D confined to the lower side of the head of the window-frame, and the vertical parts I) b are secured to the jambs of the frameby means of eyebolts E E, the eyes of the bolts serving for fastenings for the tiestrings c c of the lower corners of the awning.
F is the swinging bow by means of which the awning is projected outward from the window and elevated. It is connected by means of pivots d d to the connectingframe G. G is a cord attached at one end to the bow F, and passed over the sheave H in the block I, that is suspended from the part a of the connecting-frame O, the free end of the cord being brought around the cleat J and fastened. The cleat is secured by rivets to a part, b, of the frame 0.
I claim as my invention-- The combination of the metallic frame 0 having parts a b b with a window-frame, the part a being connected with the head of the window-frame by means of hooks D D, and the parts I) b with the jambs of the same by means of the bolts E E, substantially in the manner and for the purpose above set forth.
