Description

UNITED STATES GEORGE W. PRIEST, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE,
PATENT OFFICE;
ASSIGNOR TO E. I. m: PONT DE NEMOITRS & COMPANY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPQRATION OF DELAWARE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented 11119 14 1921.
No Drawing. 01'1ginal'app1ication filed August 8, 1917, Serial No. 185,016. Divided and this application filed September 25, 1918.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Pnms'r, of Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and in the State of Delaware, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Processes for Producing Linoleum and Product Thereof, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and-exact description thereof.
My invention relates to plastic compositions containing polymerized coumarone, and to a process of making, such compositions.
The particular object of my invention is to provide a process of advantageous char.-
acter for making linoleum compositions,
p'articularly linoleum cements, and the product thereof. 1
Further objects of my invention will appear from a detailed description thereof contained hereinafter.
I have found that when a previously oxidized oil is ground together in any suitable machine, as for example a machine containing friction rolls, with'a polymerized prodnot of the coumarone or. indene grou of compounds at a temperature of. 100 or below a material is obtained which has characteristics as .to its consistency, combining.
qualities, solubility, etc., which' make it more useful as a cement than in the case-where the polymerized product of the coumarone orindene grou of compounds is added to the oil before or while heating or oxidizing the same.
- While my invention is capable of being carried out in many different ways, I shall describe only one example thereof hereinafter.
In order to carry out 111 process I may oxidize two parts of linsee oil in any suitable manner as for example by the application of heat and air soas to produce a jellylike material. The thus obtained material having a solid consistency is allowed to cool and I then mix therewith one part of a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds and grind the same together at a temperature of 100 C. or below thus producing a composition which is elastic, adhesive, coherent and light in color.
Serial No. 255,588.
Linseed oil coumarone composi- .tion n 50 parts I Pigment Ground cork or woodmjeal;
20 parts and applying to a-fabric by means of pressure. The material may also be used for cementing materials of other kinds together and on fabrics of all kinds.
While I have described my invention above in detail, I wish it to be understood that many changes may be'made therein without departing from the spirit of the same.
This application is a division of m application Serial No. 185,016, filed August 8, 1917.
I claim:
1. The process which comprises mixin together an oxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C.
2. The process which comprises mixin together an oxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds and grinding them together between rolls.
3. The process which comprises mixing together an oxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of com ounds at a temperature not above 100 and grinding them together between rolls.
4. The process which comprises mixing together oxidized linseed oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C.
5. The process which comprises mixing together oxidized linseed oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene 50 parts I above 100 C. and grinding them together between rolls.
7. A composition of matter comprising an oxidized oil having a solid consistency mixed with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
8. A composition of matter comprising an oxidized oil mixed and ground together with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
9. A composition of matter-comprising oxidized linseed oil having a solid consistency mixed with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
10. A composition of matter comprising oxidized linseed oil mixed and ground together with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE W. PRIEST.
Witnesses G. D. HOPKINS, STANLEY L. ABRAMS.
