Description

UNITED PATENT. CFFIC.
GEORGE W. PRIEST, OI? WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, ASSIGNOR 'IO E. I. DU POINT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING LINOLEUM AND PRODUCT THEREOF.
No Drawing.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. PRIEST, of Wilmington, in the county of New Castle, and in the State of Delaware, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Methods for Producing Linoleum and Product Thereof, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a new linoleum and a process of making the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a linoleum article containing polymerized Chinese wood oil or tung oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds combined in an advantageous manner.
Further objects of my invention will appear from the detailed description thereof contained hereinafter.
I have found that when previously polymerized Chinese wood oil or tung oil is ground] together in any suitable machine, as
for example a machine containing friction rolls, with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature of 100 C. or below a material is obtained which has different characteristics as to its consistency, combining qualities, solubility, etc. which make it more useful as a cement than in the case where the polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds is added to the Chinese wood oil when heated I to above 100 C.
While my invention is capable of being carried out in many different ways, I shall describe only one example thereof hereinafter.
In order to carry out my process I may for example heat two parts of Chinese Wood oil or tung oil to 265 C., so as to polymerize the same and produce a jelly-like material. Thematerial thus obtained is allowed to cool and I then mix therewith one part of a polymerized product of the coumarone o1- indene group of compounds and grind the same together at a temperature of 100 C. or below thus producing a composition which is elastic, adhesive, coherent and light in color.
This composition may be used for lino- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Ria 1(5, 1920,
-Application filed August 8, 1917. Serial No. 185,015.
Tung oil coumarone resin composition 50 parts. Pigment 20 Ground cork or 'woodmeal 50 and applying to a fabric by means of pressure. The material may also be used for cementing materials of other kinds together, and on fabrics of all kinds.
While I have described my invention above in detail, I wish. it'to be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the same.
What I claim is 1. The process which comprises mixing together an oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C. and so applying the mixture to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
2. The process which comprises mixing together an oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C., and so applying the mixture together with ground cork to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
3. The process which comprises mixing together polymerized Chinese'wood oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C., and so applying the mixture to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
4. The process which comprises mixing together polymerized Chinese wood oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C., and so applying the mixture together with ground cork to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
5. An article of manufacture comprising an oil mixed with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds, and a fabric layer carrying the same.
6. An article of manufacture comprising polymerized Chinese wood oil mixed with a polymerized product of the eoumerone or a thickened oil mixed with a polymerized indene group of compounds, and a fabric product of the .coumarone or indene group layer carrying the same. 7 of'compounds, and a fabric layer carrying Z. An article of manufacture comprising the same. 5 polymerized Chinese Wood oil mixed with a In testimony that I claim the foregoing 15 polymerized product of the coumarone or I have hereunto set my hand.
indene. group of compounds and ground GEORGE W. PRIEST. cork mixed therewith, and a fabric layer Witnesses: carrying the same. P. STRIGKLAND,
lo 8. An article of manufacture comprising H. J. HAWKE, Jr.
