MACHINE FOR GLOSSING LINEN AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 14, 1921.
Application filed May- 20, 1920. Serial No. 382,896.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAKoB KnLmsma citizen of the Swiss Confederation, and residing at Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Glossing Linenand the like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to certain new and useful improvements in machines for glossing linen and the like which avoid the disadvantages of the existing machines and possess the advantage of having organs which are both movable and fixable, together with interchangeability of the glossing body or glosser, so that it can easily be set with regard to the position of the article to be glossed and rapidly interchanged according to the kind of linen after it has become cold.
My invention will be best understood when described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view,
Fig. 2 a side view,
Fig. 3 a top view of the machine.
On the axle a of the device is a roller covered with linen. Both ends of the axle project slightly over the roller 6 and are lodged in the U-shaped frame 0, the hand crank 01 is arranged at one end of the axle a. Inside the U-shaped frame 0 the ends of the band 0 are fastened, on which the board 9 is attached by means of screws f (Fig. 3). Two bolts h (Fig. 1) are passed through the upper part of the frame 0 and are fastened at one end by means of a rod 2' and at the other are linked to the levers 70. The board 9 is sloped on one side toward the roller 72. The rod i is passed at both ends through the frame 0 in a vertical slit 0'. The levers in are pivoted in the supports m, which are fastened to the frame 0 and are oscillatory. In the middle of the frame 0 is a boss 0 provided with an inside thread for taking up the vertical bolt n. A shoe 70, provided with two notches running parallel to each other, is on the bolt n. The free ends of the levers 7c are lodged in these notches. The shoe 3) is maintained in elevated position by the expansion spring 9, disposed between the support 1' carried by the bolt 11- and shoe p. One end of the bolt is screwed into the boss 0 lodged on the frame 0; the other end is provided with a handle 8 for easy manipulation. The glossing body or glosser Z is secured to the rod 2'; it is handle o at theother. Between the curved.
part of the holding member and the handle o is a spring w attached at one end to the disk a: lodged on the circular rod, and engaged at the other on the plate 3 which bears against the frame 0 from below. As will be seen by Fig. 2, this spring presses the plate against the frame 0. The free end of the rectangularly curved part of the holding member a is provided with two notches a opposite each other in which the wedge z is inserted with its forked end so as to arrest the holding device. The wedge 2, representing a locking member, is connected with the plate y by a small chain 2.
After the glossing contrivance t has been as far as this is necessary-warmed on an ironing-stove, it is placed on the rod 71 Figs. 1 and 2), attached by engaging the rectangularly curved part of the holder u in the transverse bores of the supports on the glosser t and secured by means of the locking device 2. By pressing down the plate y the latter can now be brought under the frame 0, whereupon, after being freed, by the action of the spring to, it is pressed on the frame 0 and the glossing body is secured against oscillation around the rod. By turning the handle 8 and consequently the bolt a, the free levers k whose ends are lodged in the notches of the shoe 3), are acted on and the glossing body t can be raised with regard to the roller 7), i. e. to the article to be glossed. After loosening, i. e. pressing down the plate y, the glosser t can be thrust to the side of the rod 2' at will.
The levers is, instead of being lodged in the notches of the shoe 1?, could also be linked to the same.
What I claim is:
1. A glossing machine comprising a frame, a rod slidably disposed in the frame, a screw spindle on said frame, operating connection between said spindle and rod, a glossing body adjustably and detachably mounted on said rod, and frame engaging means carried by said glossing body for operative positioning thereof.
2. A glossing machine comprising a frame, a rod disposed in the frame, a screw spindle on said frame, lever connection between said spindle and rod, a glossing body mounted on said rod, a handle on said glossing body, and frame engaging means carried by said handle. a
3, A glossing machine comprising a frame,
a rod disposed therein, a screw spindle on 4. In a. glossing machine, the combination with a frame having a roller therein, of a presser rod slidably disposed in said frame above the roller, rod adjusting mechanism between said frame and rod, a glossing body adjustably and detachably mounted on said rod, and frame engaging means on said body.
5. A glossingmachine comprising a frame,
a presser rod therein, operating means there- 20 for onsaid frame, a glossing body detachably mounted on said rod, a handle detachably carried'on said body, and frame engaging means carried by the handle.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my 25 signature in presence of two witnesses.
