I-DUSE-G-ARMENT.
'Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1921.
Application filed March 31, 1920. Serial No. 370,090.
It is an. object of this invention to pro- Vide a. garment simple to make, inexpensive, ornamental 1n appearance, having no buttons, hooks, buckles, or other fasteners. It
is another object of this invention to pro- Y vide a garment easily laundried.
These objects will be `more fully understood, as will also other objects and cor* responding accomplishments of my invention from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof. For the purpose of this description reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a front view of the garment as worn Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a view of the garment spread out, before being sewed at the sides.
The bodyl ofthe garment indicated generally by A is made of a single piece of material. A combined waist band and bib attached to the body adjacent the neck and is indicated generally by B. Pockets C are also provided. The shapes of the waist band and pockets are such that they may `be cut from the same material as the body without any waste of material.
Referring particularly to Fig. 3, the body A comprises lobes d and 5 extending from a shoulder portion 6. The lobes comprise the front and back of the garment and are substantially the same in shape and size. However. the front -is somewhat wider, in order to make the garment conform more nearly to the Vshape of the body of the wearer. Extending laterally from the shoulder portion are arms 7. At the center a .neck opening 8 is cut. VThe body shown herein is without any waist line.
Secured to the body at the front part of the nec-lr opening is the combined waist band and bib. The only point at which it is secured is at a seam indicated by 9. The hib portion is indicated. by l0, depending from the neck daring outwardly and terminating at the sides in bands ll adapted to be extended about the body and tobe tied or otherwise fastened. Sewed to the front of the garment are the pockets C.
The garment is completed by folding it along the median line lf2-l2 and sewing the side edges together.
The garment when complete must be slipped on over the head of the wearer, and removed in this fashion. After it has been placed on the body the waist bandsare crossed in the rear and tied or otherwise suitably fastened. The bib and waist band draw :in the garment at the waist line so that the bodice portion is shaped to the curves of the body and provides the garment with a waist line enhancing its appearance. The bib covers the front of the garment and presents a smooth vest effect.
It is obvious that by reason of the simplicity of structure, the absence of buttons, hooks, buckles, or fasteners, it may easily be laundried. The singlepiece bib and waist band is also free and flat so that it does not interfere with the ironing of the garment.
Vhat I claim is:
l. An outer garment comprising a single piece of material formed of a slniulder por tion and front and back lobes folded and fastened at the edges to form a body with a neck portion, and a bib and waist band secured to the body at the neck and freely extending therefrom so that the waist band portion may be drawn. about the waist of said body to provide a smooth vest and a girdle. I
2. An outer garment comprising a single piece of material formed of a shoulder p0rtion and front and back lobes folded and fastened together at the edges to form a body with a neck portion, and a bib secured to the body and freely extending from the neck, said bib flaring outwardly from 100 the top to the bottom and ending in laterally extending waist bands which may be drawn about the waist of said body to provide a smooth vest and a girdle.
3. An outer garment comprising a body 105 having no waist line and a neck opening out therein and a bib piece secured to the body and freely depending from the neck opening, said bib flaring outwardly from top 'to bottom and ending in waist band-s 110 which may be drawn about the Waist of said body to provide a smooth vest and a girdle.
4. An outer garment comprising a single piece of material formed of a shoulder por tion having a neck opening out therein and front and back lobes folded and fastened together at the edges to form a Waistless body with a neck opening, and a bib secured to the body and freely extending from the neck opening, said bib flaring outwardly from top to bottom and ending in Waist bands which may be drawn about the Waist of said body to provide a smooth vest and a girdle.
5. An outer garment comprising a body having no Waist line and a neck opening cut therein and a bib piece Secured to the body,
said bib piece flaring outwardly from top` to bottom and ending in Waist bands which may be drawn about the Waist of said body to provide a smooth veSt and a girdle.
In witness that l claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 20th day of March, 1920.
MARGARET B. CRANK.
