UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL HERMAN VALFRID ABRAHMSEN, 0F STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN.
APPARATUS FOR HOLDING PLATES AND THE LIKE DURING WASHING UP AND RINSING.
Application filed January 4, 1921.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CARL HERMAN VAL- rmn ABnAHMsr'JN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Stockholm, Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Holding Plates and the like During \Vashing Up and Rinsing, of which the following is a specification.
Inventors have previously proposed open holders for plates and the like, intended to be carried along with the plates with. an up-and-down motion in washing or rinsing li uid for the purpose of cleaning the plates. owever, it has been found necessary to have recourse to special auxiliary devices, such as propellers or the like, in order to reinforce or supplement the movement in the liquid caused by the up-side-down motion of the holder, and thereby to render the cleaning effective. The present invention is intended, by a simple construction of the holder, to render the cleaning sufliciently effective without the use of any such special auxiliary apparatus. This obj eot is attained by the provision of a holder composed of vertically placed wires, rods, or the like, united with one another at the top and bottom, which holder is provided at the bottom with an inclined base on which the'plates are intended to be piled up on one another in spaced relation, and the vertically placed wires, or the like, are arranged in such wise that they serve as supports around the piled plates. In view of the sloping position of the plates which ensues from this arrangement, and owing to the provision of spaces between the plates in the pile, the liquid in which the holder is moved up and down will be brought into vigorous circulation in alter- Specification of Letters Patent.

nating directions and into agitation between the plates, whereby such movement of the liquid as is requisite for effective cleaning is attained.
On the accompanying, drawing is illus trated, merely by way of example, a holder constructed in accordance with the present invention, viewed in perspective. The holder consists of four vertical metal rods or wires, 1, 2, 3, 4:, which converge at the top into a point 5, and at the bottom form a foot or base 8. At the bottom of the holder is fitted an inclined ring 6, which serves as a sloping basefor the bottom plate 7 in the pile of plates. On the rods 1 and 2 are secured bars 9 between which the plates are set, in order that they may be held a certain distance apart from one another. Between the uppermost edges of the plates are arranged loose clamps 10 the shanks of which clasp the edge of the plate. The nether edges of the plates rest against the rods 1 and 2. Between the rods 3 and 4 is an opening sufficient for the convenient insertion of the plates sidewise into the holder.
l/Vhat I claim is:
A holder for plates and the like, intended to be moved with an up-and-down motion in a washing or rinsing liquid, and comprising vertically placed rods, united at the top and bottom, said holder having at the bottom thereof an inclined base on which the plates are intended to be piled up with separating means between them, the vertically placed rods being disposed in position to serve as lateral supports for the pile.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
CARL HERMAN VALFRID ABRAHMSEN.
