To all whom t may Concern Be it known that I, CLIFFORD J. FAIR- CHILD, a citizen of they United vStates of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements` m Targets, of which the following is a specifij cation.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved form of target having va fragile bulls-eye and having ymeans for eyes 8.
The target body l is preferably of bulletproof material, such as iron, and may be of the usual form with a bulls-eye aperture or Opening 4: and a plurality of concentric rings 5 painted or otherwise indicated thereon.y
The guideway for supporting the disks comprises a pair of channel bars 6 arranged in parallel spaced relation and secured to the rear face of the target 1. The guideway may communicate at its outer end with a larger magazine (not shown) or .it may itself serve as a magazine. 'It is inclined downwardly toward the opening 4:, whereby the disks supported therein are successively directed into axial registration with said opening. A projecting stop pin 7 is secured to the rear face of the target adjacent the discharge end of the guideway 2 in such a position that the lowermost disk in the guideway is supported by said pin in axial registration with the opening in the target.
The disks 3 are disposed vertically in the guideway so that the inner side faces thereof are in sliding engagement with the real` face of the target. The disks are preferably plain circular pieces of fragile material so that when the bulls-eye is hit by a bullet, it
vtion with the opening 4.
is broken into pieces,- which fall out-of the ,lower or discharge end of the guideway,
permitting the next adjacent disk in the rack to move by gravity into contact with the pin 7 where it is held iii-'axial registra- When a bulls-eye is and broken into smallpieces, the falling of which indicates that the bulls-eye has been hit and clears the way for a new one, which rolls instantly into place so that the markshit, -it is shattered man may continue to shoot at the target in rapid succession without the necessity ofV stopping after each time he has hitl the bulls-eye. Y
Although but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted` without departing fromA the spirit of this invention as deiined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a target body having an opening formed therein, a guideway for successively directing fragile targets into registration with said opening, said guideway being adapted to supporta plurality of fragile disks in such manner that the breaking of the disk in said opening will permit an adjacent disk to move by gravity into said opening, the lower extremity of said guideway being open in the plane of the foremost disk for the discharge by gravity of the broken disk.
2. In a device of the class described, a
target body having an opening formed therein, a guideway for supporting aplubeing adapted to successivelyY deliver said disks into registration with. said opening, and a stop for supporting the foremost disk in said guideway in registry with said opening in such manner that the breaking of the disk in said opening will permit an adjacent disk to move by gravity into Contact with said stop so as to be supported in axial registration with said opening.'the lower extremity of said guideway being open in the plane of they foremost disk for the discharge by gravity of the broken disk.
3. In a device of the class described, 'a target body having an opening formed therein, an inclinedguideway for supporting a plurality of fragile target disks in a lllO vertical plane, saidguideway being adapted to successively deliver said disks into registration with said openlngfand a pin eX- `tending outwardly from said target for supporting the foremost disk in said guideWay in registry With said opening 1n suehfmanner that the breaking of the foremost disk vwill permit the adjacent disk to move by Y gravity into Contact With said pin so as to be supported in axial registration With said 10 opening7 the lower extremity of said guide- Way being open in the plane of said disks for the discharge by vgravity of the broken Y Signed at Chicago this 3rd day o1 Nov., l5 19.
