AMUSEMENT DEVICE.

My invention relates to an improvement in amusement devices of the type of aerial projectile targets with ball return and is particularly adapted for use with the amusement device of the patent to W. A. Tratsch, dated September 1, 1925, No. 1,551,858, in which a coin-controlled pistol may be caused to propel a ball-to-a target in which the balls, after striking the target, roll down an inclined plane into place to be loaded into the pistol when the reloading device has been released by a coin inserted in the coin slot, and in which the reloading of the pistol operates a device for resetting any target indicator which has been caused to be shown.

, My invention has for its object to provide a stop device in the path of the balls as they roll back from the target so as to permit ,them to be'counted before being returned to the pistol and to so arrange the stop device that movement of the reloading device by which thel targets are reset operates to lift .the stop device and release the balls retained by it.

Av further object of the inventionI is the provision in the stopping device of pockets which may benumbered so that the lodging of a lball in one pocket rather than another` as well as hitting the bulls eyeV of a target may require the exercise of special skill.

With the objects above indicated, and other objects hereinafter explained in view my invention consists in the construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and claimed. I,

With this slide 7 is connected a rod 8 Jhave been propelled to the targets, I arrange a stop device consisting of a bar 10 extending across the runway with its ends 11 and l2 extending towards the targets. These arms 11 and 12 are pivoted at their ends to the sides of the enclosing box 1. Midway between its ends bar l0 is provided 70 with a pin 13 which extends downward lthrough an opening 14 in inclined plate 9 in position to be struck and forced upward by a cam 15 secured on rod 8.

The initial forward movement of slide 7 moves rod 8 and cam 15 kforward far enough to cause the cam to act against the lower end of pin 13 so as to swing bar 10 upward on the pivots of arms 11 and 12 sufficiently to permit any balls which may have been stopped by it to roll under it and to roll down into positionto be reloaded into the pistol.

The stopping bar 10 is preferably provided with fingers 16 extending towards the targetsA so arranged as to leave between each two adjacent lingers a pocket 17. These pockets may be numbered so as to serve as targets for ricochet target practice.

The pistolis arranged to shoot three or live or any other number of balls. The stopping device shows the number of balls shot and thus serves as a check on any claim by a user that he has not been able to shoot the number of balls paid for.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. In an amusement device having a propelling device for balls, a target above the level of the propelling device, and an inclined surface leading from the targetto the propelling device for returning the balls thereto, a slide orreloading the propelling device, means between the target and the propelling device for stopping the balls as they return from the target comprising -a bar extending across the inclined surface having arms extending towards the target pivoted at the ends of the arms and means operated .by the reloading means for swinging the barupward on its pivots to release the balls-stopped' by it comprising a rod connected with the reloading slide extending toward the target and means carried bythe rod for swinging the bar upward on its pivots to release the balls stopped by it.

6. In an amusement device having a propellingrdevice for balls, a target'above the level of the propelling device, andan inclined surface leading from the target to the propelling device for returning the balls thereto, means between the'target and the propelling device for stopping the balls as theyj return from the target comprising a bar extending across the inclined surface provided with pockets to receive the balls.

7. In an amusement device having a propelling device for balls, a target above the level of the propelling device, and an in clined surface leading from the target to the propelling device for returning the balls thereto, means between the target and the propelling device for stopping the balls as they return from the target comprising a bar extending across the inclined surface provided with pockets to receive the balls,

and means for lifting the bar to release any balls in the pockets.
