To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN A. WILLIAMSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Finger-Grasping 'Razor-Blade Holder, of which the following is a spec1fication. f

Y My invention relates to a finger grasping razor blade holder, and the objects of my invention are:

First: to provide a finger grasping razor blade holder in which loose, naked razor blades are instantly inserted in a guide holder in proper position to shave wlth, and that can be instantly; removed from the holder after shaving.

Second: to provide a shaving razor blade holder in which loose, free, razor blades are adjustably and removably clamped, and se cured in a finger grasping, naked razor holder.

Third: to provide a simple razor blade renewably holding shaving device, that-1s simple and practicable in construction, and

that can be more quickly and easily and safely drawn over the face and neck than the commonly used handle provided and folding razors.

I attain these objects by. the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a razor constructed in accordance with my invention.

This back plate member of the holder is made enough shorter than the height of the razor blade to allow the cutting edge of the razor blade to project about a thirty-second to a sixteenth of an inch above it. This razor blade supporting back plate portion 2, of the complete razor blade holder isprofvided with two projecting guideribs 4 and 5, which are soldered or otherwise secured to it, andextend across'it parallel with the cutting edge of the razor blade 3,.and of the upper edge of the back plate 2. The guide rib L, isplaced close to the top edge of the back plate 2, and projects preferably but a little beyond its surface. The guide plate 5, however, is placed to the lower edge of the back plate and projects farther from it than the-rib 4. The object of these ribs is to provide very narrow edges on the back plate to engage the faceand neck, and at the same time to provide the proper shaving angle to the edge of the razor. V

The finger rasping part of my razor blade holder comprises a short plate that is bent upon itse'lfto form a base plate part 6, and a top razor blade clamping part 7.

' This razor blade holder is only long enough to be held by thefingers in position to move the razor blade over the face. The bottom portion 6, contalns a slight rounded corner part8, and is provided with an upwardly projecting short. tongue member 9, that is cut out of the base plate and turned up above the baseplate to confine the'heel or bottom edge portion 10, 01 the razor blade against the back plate 2. The base plate 6, of the holder, extends from the seat 10*, in a flat slightly concaved curve to the corner 8, from which it isinclinedup'wardly for a short distance to its 7 terminal end, where it is bent upon itself front terminal into a small curvedend 11, which forms the end of the razor blade holder. From this end 11, the plate extends in the top portion 7, which I call the razor blade clamping plate, and which extends to and bears against the razor blade, with a strong resilient pressure.

. in order to release the razor blade from the normal upward inherent resilient pressure of the clamping plate 7, and when the clamping plate is pressed down against the base plate 6, the razor blade is not only released, but owing to its inwardly inclined position, itwill fall over on top of the clamping plate, and can be picked up and removedfrom the holder.

In order to accommodate the holder to blades as they grow narrower from stropping, and also enable the holder to receive and support razor blades that may'beenarrower than the full width of blade'the holder is made for, I provide the underside ofthe seat portion. 10 of the holder with set screws 12, which can be turned to raise or adjustthe height of blades and of their cutting blades as desired, relative to the upper edge of the back plate 2.

In Fig. 3, I illustratea slight modification of the shape and form of the holder that affects the form of the razor blades seat 10, the back plate, and the base plate 6, of the holder. In this arrangement, the tongue '9, is dispensed with and the corner portions of the base plate are cut into at an angle 14r, and the tongue members 15,

Inasmuch as in this arrangement of the razor blades seat, the razor blade must be inserted and pushed in endwise, one end of the holder may be provided with an end closing or stop portion 16, which may be a part of the back 2, as in Fig. 5, or of the- 7 seat part 10*, of the holder, as in Fig. 6.

In Fig. 7, I illustrate another modificatlon oi the razor blade housing and fastenmg mechanism. In this arrangement, there 7 is a loose razor blade housing plate 17, that is placed opposite the back plate 2, and that fits up against the inside surface of the razor blade, and that extends transversely across the width ofthe holder, and is preferably almost, but not quite, ashigh as the back 2. This loose housing plate is pivotally secured to the base plate 6, close to its seat 10 in any suitable manner. I preferably, however, pivotally secure it to the base plate by means of two depending lips 18, that are formed on its lower edge, which extend loosely through two apertures 19,

formed through the base plate, and v are curved around the bottom surface of the base plate,locsely enough to allow this inside housing plate to pivotally swing in the aperture up against and away from the inside surface of the razor blade. This loose housing plate is engaged by and moved and is held against the inside surface of the razor blade I by the upward resilient pressure of the clamping plate 7 of the holder, as shown in Fig. 7. This construction, however, is again somewhat changed in Fig. 8, where the end 20, of the clamping plate is turned downy'vardly to strike this inside housing plate about midway of its height, and in this arrangement, the back housing plate 2, is preferably given a greater inwardly inclined angle and the clamping plate is arranged to be forced upwardly against the loose inside housing" member by a screw 21.

I preferably employ a finger opera-ted screw 21, which is threaded into the base plate and extends through it and up against the underside of the clamping plate 7. This form of holder, with the ribs on the back plate and also with the razor blade raising screw and with the guards on the opposite ends of the holder, allows the razor blade, when the loose inside housing plate is released, to fall over on top of the clamping plate, and when its front edge is down against the base plate end, the razor blades are dropped sidewise into the holder between the stationary back, and the loose housing plate, and is clamped there either by the resilient tension of the clamping plate 7, as in Fig. 1, and Fig. 2, or the clamping plate is forced against the loose plate to clamp the razor blade tightly between it and the back plate by the finger operated screw.

My invention provides a finger grasping razor blade holder in which a razor blade that can be held and applied to all of the various angles it is necessary to use a razor in when shaving, that can be held more steadily and moved quicker and with safety, than the razors in common use, and while I have illustrated and described the preferred construction of my invention, I do not wish to be limited to it, as changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

When shaving down or crosswise on the face, the razor is preferably held as shown in Figs. 1, 3, 4, 5,6, 7, 8 and 9, but when shaving up, as on the neck, it is preferably held as shown in Fig. 2; and it is preferably held as shown in Fig. 2 to insert or remove a razor blade in the holder; and it is laid down on a table or shelf preferably as shown in Fig. 2, that is, with the razor blade edge upward. v

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a finger grasping razor blade holder, a razor blade and a suitable finger grasping plate form of holder for securing said razor blade in shaving positions, said holder being provided with means including a bottom and back conforming housing for securing the razor blade against displacement therefrom, said means including a stationary back plate member against which the razor blade rests, said back member being provided with ribs on its outside surface arranged to define the shaving angle of the razor blade, and a fiat base portion against which the bottom or heel edge of said razor blade bears, said finger grasping portion 7 comprising a thin bottom plate portion extending laterally from the said heel portion of said holder a short distance, and then being bent in a small curve upon itself, and extended forwardly in a resilient top plate portion to close to the razor blade, slots through the bottom flat portion of said holder, a loose housing plate bearing against the inside surface of said razor blade and provided with lugs extending through the 1 slots in said bottom plate, and pivotally ing arranged to bear against said loose hous-.

said free ended plate member being pro vided with a resilient tension and arranged to clamp-ingly hold said razor blade against said stationaryback plate, means including projecting ribs on said stationary back plate, arranged'to define the shaving angle of said razor blade, means including a pivotally swinging plate for housing the inside surface of'said razor blade, and a screw for forcing the free ended clamping plate against said pivotally swinging plate, and

means including set screws in the bottom of said base plate for raising said razor blade in said holder, said holder comprising a casing having a base member turned upon itself to form a free end member,-said base plate member being provided with a back plate portion in which a naked razor blade rests,

and said free end member being formed to extend to said razor blade and arranged to clamp it to the back portion of said base plate by its inherent resilient tension, and.

means including free end portions cut from the opposite corners of said base plate for providing housing members for the-razor blade opposite to said back plate.
