' object thereof is to provide means in connection with a pulley for securing a clothes line when it is drawn taut and to secure also the pulley from turning when the clothes line is fastened.
The object of the improvement is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the invention applied to a clothes line, a portion of the device being broken away and in section' F 2 is a similar view of the same in a plane at right angles thereto; and
Fig. 3 is a top plan View projected from Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views and referring now to the same.
1 is a shield through the center of which extends a shaft 2 upon which is mounted a pulley comprised of two similar notched disks 3. The shield has a rear extension 4 with a perforation 5 therein by means of which the device is anchored. One end of the shaft 2 projects from the side of the frame and has a head 6 thereon, the shaft passing through a slot 7 in a clamp frame8 so that the frame is held vertically movable in connection with the shield, a stud 9 also projecting from the shield into the slot 7 of the frame serves to prevent turning movement of the frame relative to the shield.
Pivoted to the upper end of the frame 8 is a jaw 10, and through the lower end of the frame extends a clamp screw 11 hav ng upon its end a jaw 12, the two jaws belng positioned diametrically opposite each other relative to the pulley.
In using the device the clothes line 14: is inserted between the jaw 10 and the pulley and then between the pulley and the jaw 12. The device is then anchored by securing its extension to any suitable support (not shown). The clothes line is then drawn taut by pulling the inserted end thereof around the pulley and is held taut by turning the clamp screw 11 until the line is clamped between the twojaws and the pulley. When thus secured the line is prevented from retracting and the pulley also is thereby held from turning. As the clamp frame is vertically movable relative to the pulley, the former readily accommodates its position as the pressure of the clamp screw is applied so that the line is clamped with equal force between the opposite jaws and the respective adjacent faces of the pulley. The clothes line is released by loosening the clamp screw which permits it to run freely over the pulley.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a shield having an anchor extension and a shaft extending therein; a pulley mounted loosely on the shaft; a slotted clamp frame mounted upon the shaft and being vertically movable relative to the shield, there being means in connection with the shield and engaging the frame to prevent the latter from turning relative thereto; a fixed jaw in con nection with one end of the frame; and a clamp screw in the opposite end of the frame and having a jaw upon its end, said jaws being positioned diametrically opposite each other relative to the pulley.
2. In a device of the class described, a clamping means having oppositely positioned jaws; a shield supported by the clamping means in sliding relation therewith; and a pulley within the shield between the aws of the clamping means.
