UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. DANIELS, OF BRYAN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN scvTHE-RIFLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,763, dated April 15, 1873 5 application filed February 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. DANIELs,l
of Bryan, in the county of Williams and State of Ohio, have invented a certain Improvement in Rifles, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of rides which are more especially designed for sharpening harvester-cutter bars. My improvem ent consists of such an instrument, compounded of a polygonal rifle, made tubular from end t0 end, and a cylindrical rifle iitting the aperture in the polygonal one, and 'capable of serving as a handle for the latter, or of being used separately to grind out nicks in the knives.
Figure 1 is a perspective of 'my combined polygonal and cylindrical ride. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the polygonal riie. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the cylindrical riile detached.
The same letters of reference are used in all the gures in the designation of identical parts.
The polygonal rilie A illustrated has the form of an irregular hexagon in cross-section, and is provided wlth a cylindrical hole, A', passing through it from end to end. The cylindrical riiie B terminates at one end in a smooth handle, B', a collar, b, being formed at the junction of the handle and the body B. It fits snugly inthe holenikl of the polygonal riile, but is somewhat longeth'anthelatter, so that when inserted therein clear up to the collar b. it will protrude far enough at the other end to afford the proper length for taking hold of it with the left hand while the right grasps the handle B.
Ordinarily the two rifles are used in conj unction, as represented in Fig. l 5 but whenever nicks are found in the knives which are too deep to be readily ground out by a dat surface the cylindrical rifle may be detached from the other and appliedseparately. f'
What I`cl'aim" as -ifyliiiventiom and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A compound tool, consisting bt' va tubular polygonal rifle, A A', and a cylindrical rifle, B B' b, substantially asV shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof LI have signed my name to the foregoing specilication in the presenceof two subscribing Witnesses.
y WILLIAM H. DANIELS.
