CLOTHES DRIER;
APPLICATION FILED Jun: 16. 1 920.

UNITED STATES PATENT orrics.
EMMOR M. BAYNE', OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
Application filed June 16,
T 0 all w 720m it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMon M. BAYNE', a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Briers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes driers, and has for its object to provide a device of this description which may be secured to the wall of the room in such manner that the arms upon which the clothes are hung may be raised adjacent to the ceiling so as to have the benefit of the highest temperature in the room for drying purposes.
My present invention being an improvement upon the construction shown in United States Patent Number 390,120 having for its main object to overcome the disadvantages of the. above named patent such as the undue pull necessary upon the hoisting rope to raise the clothes when loaded and also to prevent the splitting of the slide which supports the clothes rack.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1, is a plan View of a clothes drier made in accordance with my improvement.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is a detail perspective of the slide, cap and guide bracket.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied 1 represents a beam or strip of wood to the upper end of which is secured the over hanging arm 2 being preferably made of cast iron and having a slot 3 formed therein, in which slot is journaled the shive wheels 4 and 5.
6 represents the slide which consists of a wooden bar having a roller 7 journaled in the lower end thereof for traveling upon the front face of the beam 1, and this slide has the guide bracket 8 attached thereto, which bracket surroundsthe beam 1 and has journaled therein a roll 9 upon each side of the beam, these rolls being intended to travel Specification of Letters Patent.

upon the edges of the beam to lessen the fric- 131011 at these points. 10 represents another guide bracket carried by the slide 6 and on tending around the beam 1, and in this last.
prevent the splitting of the upper end of the slide.
The guide bracket 10 is provided with the feet 15 which fit against the vertical section of the angle bar 13 and is secured thereto by the bolts 17 passed through'the holes 16 and through suitable holes in the angle bar and the'slide. I
18 represents a head which consists'of a casting, and this head is secured to the slide a by the bolts 17 passing through the cars 19.
formed with said head so that this head, the
angle bar and the guide bracket 10 are all bound together by said bolts.
The head is so constructed that it may re-' ceive and support the arms 20 upon which the clothes are hung.
To the front of the slide 6 is journaled the I shive wheel 21 and the lift rope 22 as one end thereof is attached to the eye 23" depending from the overhanging arm 2 and from which it passes downward and around the shive wheel 21 then upward and around the shive wheel 4 and outward and around the shive wheel 5 and finally downward within reach of the person operating the device so that when the clothes are hung upon the arms 20 and the free end of the rope 22 is pulled downward the slide 6 and the head carried thereby will be drawn upward, the arrangement of the shive wheels being such as to multiply the power exerted in lifting the slide as two to one to the pull upon the free end of the rope, thus greatly facilitating the hoisting of the clothes.
The over hanging arm 2 is provided with a lip 23 for engagement with a spike or staple 24: which latter is driven in the wall adjacent the ceiling of the room for supporting the upper end of the device, while a similar spike or staple 25 is driven into the wall at a lower point with which the lip 26 of the supporting bracket 27 engages for holding the lower end of the beam in proper position.
28 represents a hook formed with the bracket 27 around which the free end or" the rope may be wound or tied for holding the slide and the parts carried thereby in elevation.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits oi the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is In a clothes drier of the character eescribed, a beam, an overhanging arm secured to the top of said beam, said arm having a r slot therein, two shive wheels journaled in said slot, a slide adapted to move up and down upon the beam, a head, horizontal arms carried by said head, ears formed on said head, said ears being fitted to the front face of the slide, an angle bar fitted upon the upper end of the slide, a guide bracket, feet formed on said bracket adapted to bear against one face of the angle bar, bolts passed through said feet, angle bar, braket and ears for holding these parts in position, a shive wheel journaled to the slide, and a rope passed around each of said shive wheels and having one end thereof attached to the overhanging arm.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
EMMOR M. BAYNE.
