Description
UNITED 's'ra'ri-is FOSTER PATENT OFFICE,
MILLIKEN, OI LAWRENCE, NEW YORK, ASBIGNOR '10 FOSTER MILLIKEN, S. FULLERTON WEAVER, AND JAMES M- BEPPLIER, TRUSTEES.
ALLOY.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fos'rnn MILLIKEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lawrence, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Alloy, ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved. alloy characterized by a high resistance to the-corrosive influences of acids and capable of withstanding high temperatures. I
Another object is to provide an alloy-especially serviceable for use in the manufacture of still plugs and other fittings liable to be subjected to the action of acids and hightemperatures. a
The alloy contains the following metals I in substantially the following proportions,
namely Per cent Copper 45-55 Nickel 29-35 Lea s 1 1-3 Zinc--- I 5-9 Iron 4-8 Silicon copper (approximately 10%) 1-3 specification 01 Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1921.
Application filed October 8, 1919. I Serial No. 829,184.
' These ingredients are melted together and cast n the usual way, and the alloy resulting therefrom possesses the above mentioned acid resisting quality, and is well adapted for high temperature work. The silicon of the 10% silicon copper remains as one of the constituents of the alloy, and the co 4 silicon copper associates with the other copper and the silicon is present in the all0y from a trace to about .30 per cent. a
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to ters Patent An alloy consisting of the following consecure by Letstituents. in approximately the following proportions, namely, copper to per cent., nickel 29 to 35 per. cent., lead 1 to 3 2 per cent., zinc-5 to 9 per cent., iron 4 to 8 per cent. and silicon from a. trace to about .30 per cent. g
FOSTER IL IKEN.
