CURTAIN-POLE BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 15, 1919. Serial No. 310,944.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, HOWARD A. TONGUETT, a citizen of the United States, residin at Marion, in the county of Marion and tate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in curtain poles and more particularly to the supports therefor.
An important object of this invention is to provide a curtain pole having a novel form of bracket by which the curtain pole may be quickly and securely attached thereto.
A further object of this invention is to provide a curtain pole and bracket which is simple to apply, of highly simplified construction and cheap to manufacture.
A further object of this invention is to provide a curtain pole bracket which may be attached to the side of a window frame without marring the front of the same.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a'plan view of a window curtain pole and bracket embodied in the invention, the same illustrating the application of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing a portion of the pole in section, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the bracket.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a curtain pole adapted to be arranged transversely of a window frame 6. The end portions of the poles are curved inwardly as indicated at 7 for engaging a pair of brackets generally designated by the numeral 8. The pole or support 5 is substantially ellipsoidal in cross section and has one side 9 open. The bracket 8 includes an attaching plate 10 having openings 11 for the reception of screws or other suitable fastening devices adapted for attaching the bracket to a window frame. A body plate 12 is connected to the attaching plate 10 b an outwardly ofi'set connecting )late 18.
forwardly curved and upwardly extending tongue 1.4. is formed integral with the body plate 12 and has its upper end terminatin below the horizontal plane of the upper side of the body plate 12. An L-shaped locking member 15 is extended fron the body plate 12 at its upper side and is provided with a downwardly extending lock ng The extension 14% the locking member 15 form a socket 17 for the reception of the curved end portion '5' of the curtain 'pole. An opening i8 is provi ed in the top of the end portions of t is our Mn pole and is adapted to receive the downwardly extending lockingarm 16 of the L-shaped menber 15. sion 14 is adapted to engage the inner side of the end portion of the curtai i pole and adapted for supporting the same. The terminals of the curved portions of the brackets abut the inner side of the horizontal portion of the locking member 15. As the upper end of the curved extension accidental displacement tions are inserted within the sockets 17 and the downwardly extended arm placed within the recesses 18 thereby locking the pole in position and effectively retaining the same against accidental displacement.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the lnvention, what is claimed is 1. The combination with a curtain pole of substantially ellipsoidal form in cross arm 16. 65
The upper end of the curved extenf ooov plate 12 and 85 from its lower car as indicated at 90 section and having one side open and its ends turned, of a body plate adaptedto be secured to a wmdow frame and having an offset portion provided with a horizontal neath the first mentioned arm and adapted to extend into the end of the curtain pole and engage the under face of the upper side thereof to support said pole on said body plate, the body plate having a stop shoulder to receive the end of the.lower wall of said turned end of the pole.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a curtain pole bracket formed of a single blank and comprising a body plate having an offset portion adapted to be secured to a Window frame, a central forwardly extended and upwardly, curved supporting main portion of the central arm and terminating in a downwardly extended look ing end for engagement through an opening in the upper face of the curtain pole supported on the first mentioned arm, the looking end having a beveled inner wall, and a stop shoulder formed beneath the first mentioned arm to receive the end of the lower wall of the curtain pole and retain the curtain pole against movement on the first mentioned arm and the locking arm of the bracket.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HOWARD A. TONGUETT. Witnesses:
