Description

April 3, 1951 F. L. STUTZ CURTAIN ROD BRACKET Filed Jan. 10, 1946 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 3, 1951 CURTAIN ROD BRACKET Frederick L. Stutz, Sturgis, Mich., assignor to Kirsch Company, Stur of Michigan gis, Mich., a corporation Application January '10, 1946, Serial No. 640,305
Claims. 1
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a curtain rod bracket which is well adapted for use either as a single rod bracket or as a double rod bracket, and one which is simple in structure and attractive in appearance when used either as a single rod bracket or a double rod bracket.
Second, to provide a structure having the above advantages in which one of the curtain rod sockets is adjustable one to the other.
Third, to provide a structure which is simple and economical and may be formed entirely of sheet metal stampings.
Objects relating to details and economies of the invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of the inventionis illustrated in the accompany:- ing drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a curtain rod bracket embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an inside elevation.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section on line 3-3 of Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the main part of the bracket is formed and also one of its sockets.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the adjustable stirrup-like socket member is formed.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged perspective view with portions of curtain rods disposed therein, the curtain rods being illustrated by dotted lines.
The bracket of the invention comprises an arm-like body portion l of angular section disposed with the flange 2 vertically and the flange 3 horizontally. A top flange 4 extends from the inner end of the bracket arm outwardly for a substantial portion of the length of the flange 2, thus serving as a reinforcing member and also adding to the appearance.
It will also be noted that the attaching ears 5 are extensions of the flanges 3 and 4.
The outer end portion 6 of the flange 2 extends beyond the outer end of the horizontal flange 3 and is bent or disposed substantially at right angles to the flange 2 constituting a socket front wall. The tongue-like portion 1 is struck out from the flange 2 to constitute the socket rear wall opposed to the front wall.
The bottom flange 3 constitutes the bottom of the socket which is designated generally by the numeral, 8. The flange 3 has an extension 9 at the outer end thereof to widen the portion of the flange 3 which constitutes the bottom of the socket.
A second socket is provided, designated generally by the number I0. This is formed of sheet metal stamping, the blank of which is shown in Fig. 5, the socket comprising a body portion I l having the wing-like wall portions l2, extending from opposite edges thereof, these being folded to a substantially right angular position and curved at their lower edges to constitute opposite walls and the bottom of the socket. The arm l3 of the blank is folded over to constitute a clip l4, springably engageable with the vertical arm of the bracket. 7 The bracket has a longitudinal series of detents l5 with which the hole l6 of: the arm l3 may be selectively engaged, thus securing a socket ill in its adjusted position on the bracket arm.
The .curtain rods 17 shown by dotted lines in Fig. 6 are of a conventional type and are arranged in the adjustable socket, permitting the desired spacing of the curtain rods.
This improved curtain rod bracket is simple and economical in structure, and at the same time is strong and rigid and may be used either as a single bracket or as a double bracket.
The embodiment illustrated is a practical commercial embodiment. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments or adaptations of the invention as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a curtain fixture, the combination of a bracket comprising an arm of angular section disposed with one flange horizontally and the other vertically, the horizontal flange terminating short of the outer end of the vertical flange, the outer end of the vertical flange being disposed laterally at the end of the horizontal flange and constituting a socket front wall, the vertical flange having a tongue-like portion struck therefrom and disposed in spaced relation to said front wall to provide an opposed rear wall, the horizontal flange constituting a bottom for the socket, said vertical flange having a plurality of longitudinally spaced detents formed therein, and a stirrup-like socket member provided with a U-shaped clip removably and adjustably engaging the vertical flange, the outer arm of said clip being springable and having a hole selectively engageable with said detents in said vertical flange.
2. In a curtain fixture, the combination of a bracket adapted to be secured to a wall comprising an arm of angular section disposed with one flange horizontally and the other vertically, the horizontal flange terminating short of the outer end of the vertical flange, the outer end of the vertical flange being disposed laterally at the end of the horizontal flange and constituting a socket front'wall, the. vertical flange having 'a tongue-like portion struck therefrom and disposed in spaced relation to said front wall to provide an opposed rear wall, the horizontal flange having a lateral extension at the end thereof constituting a bottom for the socket.
3. In a curtain fixture, the combination of a bracket comprising an arm of angular section disposed with one flange horizontally and the other vertically, the outer end ofthe vertical flange being disposed laterally and constituting a socket front wall, the vertical flange having a portion struck therefrom and disposed in spaced relation to said front wall to provide an opposed rear wall, the horizontal flange terminating adjacent the laterally turned outer end of said vertical flange and constituting a bottom for the socket, and a stirrup-like socket member provided with a clip hung over and embracing the top edge of the vertical flange intermediate said rear wall and the inner end of the vertical flange. 4. In a curtain fixture, the combination of a bracket comprising an arm of angular section Y disposed with one flange horizontally and the other vertically, the outer end of the vertical flange being disposed laterally and constituting a socket front wall, the vertical flange having a portion struck therefrom and disposed in spaced relation to said front wall to provide an opposed rear wall, the horizontal flange terminating short of the laterally turned outer end of said flange having a tongue-like portion struck therefrom to provide an inner vertical socket wall disposed in spaced parallel relation to said outer wall, said inner and outer walls and horizontal flangeall being disposed on the same side of the vertical flange to provide a socket for receiving the end of a curtain rod, said horizontal flange constituting the lower wall of the socket, the upper ends of said'inner and outer walls being spaced from each other to permit insertion of the curtain rod into the socket from above.
