IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,536, dated April 8, 1873; application filed March 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LROBEET DroKsoN, of Lansingburg, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse- Brushes 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
Figure l is a face View of the brush. Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
The nature of my invention consists in the boring and drawing of horse-brushes, substantially in the manner hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the block, which may be of wood, leather, or any other substance used for the purpose. B represents the strap or handle. O represents the outside row of knots of bristles or any other stock or material of which brushes are made. D represents the inner rows, the holes of which are so bored that the knots or tufts in each alternate row shall stand inversely toward the others, so that they shall so converge as to form an inverted V, the tops or points abuting, as shown at D, Fig. 2.
By this arrangement of the knots I am enabled to make a much better and stiffer brush from the same stock or material than can be made in the ordinary manner, as, by the knots coming together at the top or points, they brace and stiffen each other; and, by reason of the spaces E,the brush can be much more easily cleaned. l
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy In the construction of brushes, the slanting together of the inner rows ot knots or tufts, so as to abut against each other at the tops or points, substantially as set forth and described.
