JOHN KARI'J'JZKY, or GABWOOD. NEW ER NQK I0 ,G BWQQ AGQMi'ANY, A
. c CORPORATION or nnw JERSEY. 1 q
T0 all whomz'tmay concern. I
Be it known that 1, JOHN KARITZYKX, a citizen of the United States, and ,=residing at Garwood, rinythe county of Unioilealld State of'New Jersey, hayeinyented certain new and useful Improvements in Toggles, of which the. following is .a specification, taken in connection with ;the accompanying draw.-
hly invention relates to toggles and more particularly to a toggle in which the hinge member can be readily placed or changed by the mechanic. Itfurther relates to: such .a
toggle in which the hinge member =isafnot permanently secured to the =toggle,as {by rivetingior other similar means. 5
My, invention further relates to such .a toggle in which ahead is formed preferably ofspring material, which can be opened .by the operator to insert the hinge-member, or if a hinge memberis alreadymounted in the head he can readilycremove it in case he desires to substitute another form of binge member.
hiy invention further relates to such a spring headed toggle which is preferably stamped out of sheet. metal. At the same time that it is stamped, or subsequently, it may be provided with seats for the hinge member and also, though not necessarily, with oneor more stops. These stops are preferably formed by crimping over one or both of the free ends of the substantially V shaped head so that they will engage with the bolt or other member and insure the proper alinement of the head with the bolt when it is inserted in the hole in the wall.
My invention further relates to certain details of construction and combinations which will be more fully described in the specification and pointed out in the claims,
" and to a strong serviceable toggle which can be manufactured at minimum expense.
I have shown in the accompanying drawings d fferent embodiments of my inventlon,
but of course it is clearly understood that.
my invention is not to be confined to the particular forms shown by way of example except as required by "the scope of my claims. I
In the accompanying drawings the same reference numerals refer. to similar parts in the several figures. V Figure 1 1s a perspective view of my togroeenn.

gle inrwhichrthe hinge member is an ord-mary' square screw-threaded nut;
. F g. 2 is :a perspective view of the toggle headshcwnin Fig. -1 but provided with two stops formed Ebyflcnimping over the free endsroif'thezhead 7 v ai s is auras view of one form of I hinge member, that is-usedin Fig. 1;
N Fig. 4 isa perspective view of one form of my toggle in which the hinge imembe fis adiamond shaped nut;
Fig.':5 is a plan-view of a head similar to that in Fig.4 ibutprovided w ith two stops Fig. 9 is a plan view of the T headed bolt shown in Fig. 8.
In the illustrated embodiments of my in vention shownin the drawings 1 is a toggle head provided with arms 2 and 3 and with seats 4, 4 to cooperate with any suitable form of hinge member.
Fig- 3, or diamond shaped nut6, Fig. 6, in which the ends 7 7 are in effect trunnions, or itmay be a nut 8 in which the trunnions 9, 9, Fig. 7 aremore prononnced, or it may be an ordinary T headed bolt 10, Fig. 9, or any other similar hinge member which is not permanently secured to the toggle head by riveting or other similar means. These different forms of binge members are interchangeable in my toggle head. i
The hinge member 5, or any other suitable hinge member, may be placed in my toggle head by pressing open the free ends 11, 11 of the arms 2 and 3. If the hinge member 5, 6 or 8, or any similar hinge member is used, the bolt 12 is screwed into the hinge member. To locate the toggle head in a 7 hole in a wall it is brought into alinement V the other end 14 of thehead, will drop into This hinge member may be theordinarysquare nut. 5,
of sheet metal and at the same time that the toggle head is stamped I preferably, though not necessarily, provide it with the seats 4, 4: to cooperate with the hinge member, whatever the form of, the hinge member may be. p
I also, preferably, though not necessarily, provide the free ends 11, 11 or one of them, with stops 15, 15 by bending over or crimp ing a portion of the end or ends. These stops engage with the bolt 12 when the toggle head is brought into alinement with the bolt and prevent the head from swinging past the bolt, and keeps it in alinement with the bolt while it is being pushed into the hole in the wall.
The toggle head may be given various configurations. I have shown for example in Fig. 4; a little different form of toggle head 16 in which any form of hinge member may be used, as for example a diamond shape trunnion nut 6. I preferably, though not necessarily, provide this head with stops 17, 17, Fig. 5, which perform the same function as the stops 15, 15 in Fig. 2.
In Fig. 8 I have shown the toggle head 1 provided with a hinge member in the form of a T headed bolt 10; the head 18 coopert ld.
ates with the seats 4:, 4: of the toggle head andis provided with a nut 19 to secure the work (not shown).
Having thus described this invention in connection with illustrative embodiments 7 thereof to the details of which I do not desire to be limited, except as required by the scope of the appended claims, what is claimed as new and what is desired to secure by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is: I
1. In a togglebolt, the combination of a spring head provided with an open end and seats for a hinge member, a hinge member freely and removably mounted on said seats, anda securin member to securethe spring head to a wal or other support and one or more stops formed by bending one or both the free ends of the spring head.
2. In a toggle bolt the combination of a substantially V shaped head having its ends disconnected and said head being provided with seats for a hinge memberya hinge member freely and removably mounted on said seats, and a securing member to secure the spring head to a wall or other support. v JOHN KARITZKY.
