.Be it known that I, ALBERT D. RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented'certain' new and useful Improvements in Oil-Hole Closures, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to oil-hole closures, and has for its main object to .provide a closure for oil holes, which consists of few parts and simple inexpensive construction and is adapted to be opened by pressing the spout of an oil can thereagainst, and after supplying oil will close automatically upon removing the oil can. v
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, the same will be hereinafter fully described as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be distinctly pointed out in the appended claims.
Similar charactersof reference are used to designate corresponding parts in the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a semi-spherical head formed integrally with a threaded shank 2 which is adapted to be screwed into an oil opening by the application of a wrench to a nut shaped flange 3 at the base of said head. .A central opening 4. is provided in said head and shank for admitting oil to the opening into which the shank is screwed. The opening 4 is enlarged at 5 to serve as an oil reservoir. For closing the opening 4, a cover 6 is arranged to oscillate upon the Semispherical head 1 and across the entrance to the opening 4. Said cover consists of thin sheet material which is bent to conform to the semi-spherical head 1, and one of its sides 7 tapers to an inwardly extending pivot 8 and its other side 9 tapers to an inwardly extending plate .OIL-HOLE'CLOSURE.

and for guiding the same to the entrance of the oil opening 4, the center of each edge of said cover is indented and slightly rolled at 21. I In practice, the oscillating cover 6 is a sliding fit over the semi-spherical head 1 to insureit being dust-proof, and on account of its rounding form, it does not allowwater to enter the oil opening 1. When the cover is oscillated to either side, the action of the pivot plate 10 compresses the far side of the coiled spring 17', and upon releasing the cover, the compressed side of the spring naturally exerts greater pressure upon that side of the pivot plateand forces the cover 7 to normal closed position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In an oil hole closure, the combination of a body having an opening therein, a cover, the cover having pivots-formed integrally therewith, and the cover being pivoted to the body for oscillating thereupon to close said opening, substantially as described.
2. In an oil-hole closure, the combination of a spherical body having an opening therein, a cover, the cover having pivots, the body being provided with openings for receiving said pivots, and means acting against oneof said pivots tending to retainthe cover in its closed position over the entrance of said.

In an oil-hole closure, the combination of a spherical body having an opening therein, a cover, the cover consisting of sheet Inaterlal and conforming to the SPllGIlCELl body for sliding thereover, one side of the cover terminating in an nwardly extendlng pivot, the other side of the cover termlnating 1n an inwardly extending plate and plvot, said body beingprovided with openings for receivlng the first mentioned pivot and said plate and plvot, and a coiled spring exerting pressure against sald plate whereby the cover is retained in closed position over the opening in the body, substantially as described.
5. Inan oil-hole c1osure,-the combination of a spherical body having an opening therein, a cover, the cover consisting of sheet material and conforming to the spherical body for sliding thereover, one side of the cover terminating in an inwardly extending pivot, the other side of the cover terminating in an inwardly extending plate and pivot, said body being rovided with openings for receiving the rst mentioned pivot and said plate and pivot, a coiled spring exerting pressure against said plate whereby the cover is retained in closed position over the opening in the body, and a boss projecting from said plate within the coiled spring for preventing slipping of that end of the spring when the cover is oscillated, substantially as described.
