STAMP-INKING DEVICE.
newness.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 12, 1921- Application filed January 20, 192a: Serial No. 352,838,
To all whom it mar concern: p
Be it known that I, Junns A. Fnosrr, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Alafia, in the county of I-Iillsborough and State .of Florida, have invented new and in Stamp Inking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present sole invention is the provision of a practically advantageous device for inking rubber stamps such as at present in general use, and the like.
To the attainment of the foregoin the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure 1 is a plan View illustrative of-the base comprised in my device. 7
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device complete, and showing the body of the ink-pad box as arranged in open position for use.
, Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of thesame.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device with the body of the ink-pad box in closed position.
Fig. 5is a perspective of one of the lid holders.
Fig. 6 is a section taken in the plane indicated by the line 66 of Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings. I
. Among other elements my novel devlce comprises a fiat'base 1, of wood, fiber or other appropriate material". The said base is preferably, though not necessarily, provided with a series of concentric parallelograms 2, in order to facilitate the correct positioning of inkpad boxes of various sizes. The said parallelograms are not, however, of the essence of my invention, and may therefore be entirely omitted without affecting the invention as claimed.
In furtherance of my invention, 3 for the lid of an ink-pad box are fixed in spaced relation on the upper side of the base I holders an inking pad 10 ofthe usualor any other type compatible with the purpose of my lnventlon. i
In accordance with my invention, the outer side of the major portion of the lid S'issuperimposed upon a layer or layers 8, of cardboard or other suitable material and the said layers 8, in turn, are superimposed upon the bodies 4 of the holders 3, and so that the ends of the lid 8 are'adjacent to the outer edges of the said bodies 4, and the tongues 5 and 6 of the holders are bent over the outer sides and edges and against the inner sides of the lid flanges 11. The interposition of the layer or layers 8, as stated, is designed'to maintain the lid above the base 1, and so that the body 7 will be practically flush with the lid when said body? is in fully opened position and rests solidly upon the base 1.
By virtue of the attachment described, it will be manifest that when the ink-pad is to be used, the body 7 of the box will rest in superimposed position directly upon the base 1,.Figs. 2 and 3, and that when the pad is not to be used, the box body 7 will be swung over upon and partly within the lid 8, so as to make use of the lid for the exclusion of dust and other foreign matter from the face of the pad, Figs. 3 and 4.
When deemed expedient, the base 1 may be provided adjacent to its corners with.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that by virtue of my invention, the pad box may be quickly and easily opened with one hand and without liability of the fingers of the user. being soiled. It will also be apparent when the ink-pad box is closed, the ink in the pad tends, by gravity, to flow or pass to the inking surface, thus assuring a moist inking surface after each opening of the box. Again it will be apparent that the weight of the box body 7 lends itself to the facility with which thesaid body may be flipped, through the medium of a single finger, from its vclosed position to its open position, and vice versa.
It will further be apparent from the fore going that when the pad in the box is worn out, it may be replaced with a new pad or, if preferred, the box as a whole may be removed and replaced with a fresh or/new ink-pad box. 1
Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is:
1. A stamp-inking device comprising a base, sheet-metal holders fixed on the upper side of the base and having bodies and tongues reaching from the outer side edges and the ends of the bodies, a supporting layer superimposed upon the bodies of said hold ers and an ink-pad box including a body, an ink pad in said body, and a flanged lid to which the body is hinged; said lid being superimposed in inverted position upon the supporting layer and Within the upstanding base, holder means extending upwardly therefrom supporting means on the base within said holder means, and an ink-pad box including a body, a pad therein, and a flanged lid hinged to the body; said flanged lid being superimposed in inverted position upon said supporting means and Within the holding means, so that its flange is engaged by said holding means. i V
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
