UNITED STATES JOHN HENRY GIBBS, OF WEST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
GOLLAPSIBLE-TUBE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.V
Patented Apr.12, 1921.
Application led September 30, 1919. Serial No. 327,368.
Toallwhomitma concern; i
Beit known t at I, JOHN H.IG1BBS, a
- citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Collapsible-Tube VHolder, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
LThis invention relates to .tube holding devices and particularly to holding devices for collapsible tubes. The object of the invention is to provide a holder which will act in the double capacity of a holder and means for collapsing the tube to any desired extent.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder wherein means are provided for collapsing a tube, the holder being ,constructed in such a manner as to be readily applied to a wall or other support at a point of ready access. y
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a holder disclosing an embodiment of the invention., the same being shown in connection with a collapsible tube varranged vin position ready for collapsing. v
Fig. 2 is a section through Fig. 1 on line 2 2.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through Fig. 1 on line 3-3.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a support of-any desired kind, as for instance the wall of a bath-room and 2 the holder in its entirety, said holder carrying the tube 3 which is of any usual construction, the same havingr a cap 4l at one end and a closed section 5 at the opposite end, said closed section being flat in the usual manner nowv in common practice. It will, ofcourse, be understood that the holder 2 may be used in connection with collapsible tubes carrying tooth-paste or with collapsible tubes containing any other material. The holder 2 is provided with a central section 6 on which the tube 3 rests, said section havin upstanding lugs 7 and ,8 which are prefera ly integral with the respective plate sections 9 and 10, which plate sections merge into ends 11 and 12 which receive fastening. means, as for instance screws, 'The plate' 'sectionl9 is provided with upstanding ears 13 and 14, said ears having apertures 15 therein for accommodatin the` winding and collapsing key 16. This key is provided with a body 17 havin a slot 18 therein with a reduced upset en 19 and a head 20.
In operation the closed end 5 is passed through the slot 18 and the key turned over to substantially the position shown in Figs.
1 and 2. The device is then in position for use. Whenever cap 4 is removed the key 16 may be rotated-'and the tube collapsed as often as desired, while the contents will be discharged at a proportionate rate. Where the tube 3 carries tooth-paste for instance, the cap 4 may be removed and the brush held beneath the discharge opening of the tube by one hand while the opposite end operates' the winding key for 4forcing the desired quantity of paste on to the brush. This may be done as often as desired without laying the brush down and without laying the tube down in a more or less unsanitary place. -By this construction and arrangement the contents of the tube does not touch anything until it comes in contact with. the brush or other device placed'beneath the tube for receiving the same. I f vaseline or in fact if any other material is placed in the tube the discharge thereof 1s in the same sanitary manner.
As shown in Fig. 2 the lug 7 is ositioned sufliciently near the key to cause t e proper collapsing of the entire tube so that all of the contents may be secured before the discharge endis wrapped on the key.
What I claim is:
1. A holder for collapsible tubes comprising a body formed with a central tube carrying portion, depressed end sections adaptedl to receive securing means, a pair of upstanding ears arranged on one of said end sections, and a rotatable collapsing" key mounted in said ears and adapted to engage the end of the tube, said tube being .arl ran ed on the central tube carrying portion,
sai key being arranged on avertical line spaced horizontally away from said tube carrying section by a distance equal to a proximately half the thickness of the tu e so that upon the rotation of the key, the` tube will be collapsed and pressed against' said tube carrying portion.Y
2. A holder for collapsible tubes comprisin'g a body formed from` a single piece of metal bent for producing a centrally raised section, two depressed end sections, and a 5 pair of upstanding ears on one of the end seetions, said ears projecting beyond said centrally raised section, each of said ears havthe key is rotated.
ing an aperture 'therein and a rotatable slotted key arranged in said aperture for receiving the end of a `tube positioned on A10 said raised portion whereby said tube may be Wound thereon and thereby collapsed f s JOHN HENRY GIBBS.
