Specification of Letters Patent.
ATTACHMENT-Hoon Y :son SAFETY-BELTS.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application led September 11, 1320. Serial No. 409,693.
a hook or bolt of the character described which may be readily slipped into position during the course of construction and permanently built into the structure by subsequent structural members.
Many so called safety hooks have been devised but have, for the most part, been unsatisfactory on account of insecurity or on account of the expensive nature both to manufacture and install. i
A further object of this invention is to Y provide a device of the character described, which is economical in cost of manufacture, practically eliminates the cost of placement on the job and provides the greatest degree of security to the user.
These objects are attained by means of the device described in the specification andk illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure l is a perspective view yof the device. Y
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view througha window casing or j amb showing the device attached.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of a portion of the window frame and jamb showing the device attached, and vin which a portion is broken away for better illustration.
Figs. 4 and 5 show modified forms which will be hereinafter fully described.
`Referring in detail to the parts, 11, designates the projecting neck portion of the device and is formed with a knob or safetybelt attachment-head, l2. The neck portion extends integrally from the base portion, 13, and has an inwardly bent and prolonged end, lil, and a contacting surface 15. This contacting surface, together with surface 16, formed upon the neck, engages the inner and outer surface of the staff molding, 17, of the window casing, 18. The
molding, 17, is provided with a suitabie perforation, 19, through which the end, la, is passed. A seat or locking` lug, 20,'is formed by the prolongation of the base, 13, and is stiifened or reinforced by the web 21. The device is made of any suitable metal and in practice, slipped into position by the mechanic just prior to the introduction of the structural member, 22, which may be of masonry'or any other structural material and acts by its contact with the lug or seat, 20, to permanently lock the hook in position. y In Fig. 4l, a Z-shaped base member, 23, is provided which has formed thereon, an L shaped lug, 2.4i, which lug is adapted to engage through the perforation, 23, in the staff molding The structural member 22, in this case, operates to lock the hook in position, by its contact with the Z base clearly shown.
' In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the seat or lockingk lug 20 is extended and turned, as at' 21, to embrace the side of the casing.
The construction shown in the drawings, illustrates the application of the device to a metal window and shows the locking unit as masonry. It is obvious however, that with slight modifications, within the scope of the invention, this device may be adopted for use with materials other than shown.
Various modifications may therefore be embodied without departing from the spirit of the invention and it is therefore intended that this invention be not limited to the particular embodiment shown.
lVhat is claimed:
1. In an attachment-hook for safety-belts and window-frames, aV window-casing having a perforated staff-molding thereon, means upon the hook for attaching same to and through the staff-molding of the window frame. l
2. In an attachment-hook for safety-belts and window-frames, a window-casing having a perforated staff -molding thereon, means upon the hook for attaching same to and through the staff-molding of the window frame, at ya predetermined distance above the lower end thereof.
3. The combination with a window-frame, and staff-molding thereof having a perforation therein, of an attachment -hook for safety-belts, a contacting surface formed upon the said hook engaging with and conforming to the surface of the staff-molding,
and a tongue formation upon the hook, engaging through the perforation upon the staifqnolding to hold the hook in position.
et. in a structural member, a Window easing2 a staffmoiding formed therewith and having a perforation therein7 an attachment-hook for safety-belts attached to the staff-molding, and means formed upon the hook adapted to engage through the perforation in the 'steif-molding for attaching same thereto; the said perforation in the staff-molding being` adapted to determine the point of attachment.
5. In combination with a Window casing and structural member, an attachmenthook for safety-belts, a staff-molding formed upon the Window-easing and having a perforation at a fixed Velevation in the side thereof, means formed upon the hook vto engage through the perforation on the New vfork, and State of New York, this 25 18th day of June, A. D. 1920.
