X/M ZJWA A TTORNE Y UNITED STATES NEAL H. STEVENS, OF KATALLA, TERRITORY OF ALASKA.
CIGARETTE HOLDER AND MOUTHPIECE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed May 21, 1920. Serial No. 383,220.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEAL H. STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Katalla, Territory of Alaska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Holders and Mouthpieces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The present invention pertains to a combined cigarette holder and mouthpiece, and the primary object is to provide a simple and efficient device of this nature, for the use of cigarette smokers who roll their own cigarettes, wherein is combined the advantages of a cigarette mouthpiece and holder, adapted to facilitate the rolling of the cigarette.
In the drawings:
Fi ure 1 is a perspective view showing the evice with a cigarette paper locked at the end thereof in the process of making a ci arette.
ig. 2 is a similar view showing the cigarette completed.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail showing the inner end of the device in full and with the pa er holding clamp and ring released.
11 the construction as shown in the drawings, the device consists of an ordinary mouthpiece or stem 1 provided with the ordinary longitudinal vent 2 and having the forward or cigarette engaging end cut down so as to leave an annular shoulder 3. Upon this same end is pivotally mounted the paper clamp 4, same being secured to the stem 1 by having its inner end in pivotal engagement with the ring 5 permanently set over the end of the stem 1. The outer end of this clamp 4 carries two oppositely disposed paper en aging ears 6 which are bent sidewise towar the axis of the stem 1, and
thus adapted to frictionally engage the forward end of the stem 1. An auxiliary \paper locking ring 7 is provided and slidingly mounted over the stem 1 and adapted to slide down over and upon the end of the cigarette when formed, as shown in Fig. 2, so as tolock the paper in form when the cigarette is completed. The ring 7 is anchored to the stem 1 by means of a short chain 8 so as to prevent its loss.
In operation, in forming the cigarette the cigarette pa er 9 is clamped endwise at the forward on of the stem, as shown in Fig. 1. This is accomplished by pressing thepaper holding clamp 4 down over the end of the paper so that the paper is frictionally held between the end of the stem and the clamp 4. The usual portion of tobacco is then deposited upon the paper 9, after which the cigarette is rolled and formed in usual manner. The ring 7 is then slid down over the end of the cigarette so formed, thus looking the completed cigarette in permanent form.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim to be new and patentable is:
1. A cigarette holder and mouthpiece comprising a stem with a longitudinal vent therethrough;'a paper engaging clamp pivotally mounted at the forward end of the stem; a paper engaging ring slidingly mounted over the forward end of the stem; and means for permanently retaining said paper engaging ring upon the stem.
2. A cigarette holder and mouthpiece comprising a stem with a longitudinal vent therethrough; and a paper engaging clamp pivotally mounted at the forward end of the stem.
3. A cigarette holder and mouthpiece comprising a stem with a lon itudinal vents therethrough, the forward en of the stem being cut down so as to leave an annular shoulder; means for releasably securing the cigarette paper to the forward end of the stem; and a paper engaging rin slidingly mounted over the forward end 0 the stem.
4. A cigarette holder and mouthpiece comprising a stem with a longitudinal vent therethrough, the forward end of the stem being cut down so as to leave an annular shoulder; means for releasably securin the cigarette paper to the forward end 0- the stem; a paper engaging ring slidingly mounted over t1 e forward end of the stem; and means for/ permanently retaining said paper engaging ring upon the stem.
5. A cigarette holder and mouthpiece comprising a stem with a longitudinal vent --therethrough; and a paper engaglng ring slidingly mounted over the forward end of the stem.
NEAL H. STEVENS.
