FRED E. WHITE, OF GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO CENTRAL OIL GAS STOVE 00., 0F GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
YKINDLER-HOLD'ER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed April 15, 1920. Serial No. 374,173.
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED E. lVHrrE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Gardner, Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kindler-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has to do with oil stoves of the type in which a kindler of asbestos or other non-combustible absorbent material is used. More specifically my invention relates to a holder for said kindler. The object-of my invention is to provide means whereby the kindler is supported within, but out of contact with the bottomof the oil bowl.
Another object is to provide means whereby the kindler member is held rigidly in its operative position, and yet readily removable for replacement.
Another object is to provide means for preventing clogging of the oil bowl in which the of oil and inefficient combustion.
Still another object is to provide a support for the kindler which will allow fuel to freely circulate and contact with both I sides of the kindler.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the-specification proceeds and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts throughout thFsevefal view of which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the kindler mounted complete on the holder.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View along. the line 22 of Fig. 1 in the direction of arrows.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the holder and kindler assembled in position in the oil bowl.
The asbestos or absorbent kindler material is shown at 1, supported by the holder 2, made of tin or any suitable non-combustible, non-corrodible material. This holder kindler rests, with its resultant wasteas shown in Fig. 2, is provided with perforatlons 3, for the admission of fuel to the protected side of the kindler. Lugs 4 formed integral with the holder and eX-- tending outward and upward at suitable intervals in proximity to the base of the holder in combination with additional lugs 5 formed in the same way at the top of the holder but which penetrate kindler member 1, rigidly support the kindler.
It will be noticed that the holder 2 extends below the bottom edge of the kindler member. This extension prevents clogging of the oil bowl 6, supplied with fuel through pipe 7 due to a frayed kindler as often happens.
It will be readily apparent to those skilled in this art that a rigidly, readily removable and replaceable support hasbeen provided for the kindler which obviates the difliculty arising from sediment in the oil adhering to the lower part of the kindler member and clogging of the oil bowl,
Also the perforations in the support which may be of any size or shape con sistent with the efficiency of the device, thoroughly expose the kindler to the oil,
such exposure aiding capillary action.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination, a kindler of sheet form within an oil bowl, and means'secured to the kindler and engaging the bottom of the oil bowl for spacing the kindler from the bottom of said oil bowl.
2. A kindler holder comprising a band provided with means to hold a kindler, and
:having a downwardly extending portion below the lower edge of the kindler holdingmeans, and below the bottom of the kindler when said kindler is held by the holding I means.
