MERRITT HINE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO C. COWLES 85 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DASH-RAILS FOR CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,446, dated April 1, 1873; application filed March 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERRITT HINE, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State t the construction of the rod which extends over the upper edge of the dash in childs carriages or perambulators, commonly called dash-rails, and particularly to the central portion, by which the rail is supported. This has usually been done by soldering or brazing a post to the rail at the center, but in somecases other means for attaching the post have been employed. The object of this invention is to form the post in the process of shaping the rail; and it consists in the bending or doubling the rail at the center, so that the bent or doubled portion will extend down to the dash and afiord a means of securing and supporting the rail at the center.
I form the rail from the material usually mental shape, if preferred, the form of the post being no part of my invention.
This method of forming the center post or support is much cheaper and stronger than the usual method, and adds materially to the appearance of the rail at the center.
I claim- As an article of manufacture, a dash-rail for childs carriage, having the center post formed. in one and the same piece with the rail, by doubling at the center, substantially as set forth.
MERRITT HINE.
