IMPROVEMENT IN CRANK-SHAFT EC CENTRICS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,441, dated Apiil 1, 1873; application filed January 3, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I JOHN F. HAsKINs, of Fitchburg, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Crank-Shaft Eccentrics; and I do hereby declare that the following, taken in connection with the drawing which accompanies and forms part of this specification, is a description of my invention sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to practice it.
In making crank-shafts bearing eccentrics, the shaft, crank, and eccentric are sometimes forged into an integral whole, and'sometimes are cast as one piece ;but frictional wear upon an eccentric soon'impairs and ruins it, as it cannot be easily repaired. The object of my invention is to provide for this wear by re-enforcing the eccentric at its perimeter, and providing for its renewal; and to accomplish this I cast or forge the shaft, crank, and eccentric, in the usual manner, (except as to the diameter of the eccentric,) and apply to the eccentric an encompassing or peripheral ring, which can be slipped upon and from the eccentric, the ring being circular and of uniform size, and its application not changing the angle of the center line of the eccentric relatively to .removing the ring when worn and replacing it with a new one, and by hardening the rings,
the eccentric-strap and the throw effected by it can be kept true or without deviation.
I claim- The crank-shaft eccentric, integral with the shaft and combined with the removable and concentric supplemental ring cl, substantially as shown and described.
