Description

K SR ma ,112.734- l -PA'mwEnMlm-141871..
Witnesses: Inventor anca sara SANVDFORD A. PERKNS, OF TOPSHAM,
' Letters Patent No. 112,734., dated March 14,-1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN wooo-PULP wlAeHllsu-:ar
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pai-l: of the same.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, SANDFORD A. PERKINS, of Topsham, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Band 0r Hoop for a Pulp-l/Iaehine; and I do' hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
rIhis invention relates to machines for grinding wood-pulp, and more particularly to the machine known as the Tait machine.. It is applicable to any machine i'or grinding having a horizontally-revolving stone.
It consists ot". a band, of any suitable material, preferably metal, so arranged on thestoue that the pulp and water, iiowing radially from the upper surface of the stone, shall Abe directed laterally. into a suitable trough, and not fall between the stone and the floor.
In the drawing which accompanies this specification the iigure represents a side elevation ofthe stone and hoop, with a view, in section, of the trough.
The hoop a is placed on the stone, suitably fixed, and inclined, at any desired angle, to conduct the pulp a and water 'into the 'trough bi, which surrounds the stone. 4
When the stone is revolving rapidly the water and pulp are thrown by' centrifugal force into the trough, which should be so shaped as to catch and retain them.
When, however, the stone is stopped and the centrifugal force ceases, the water and pulp, without my improvement, fall between the stone and thelioor.
'lhe baud, however, entirely prevents this, aud conducts the Whole without loss or annoyance to the trough I or to the platform.
I do not confine myself to any peculiar shape of the4 ring or material; but
Having thus .fully described my invention, g
.What l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 4A band, placed, as described, on the stone of a pulp-grinding machine, foi-'the purpose lset forth.
This speciticat-iou signed and witnessed this 7th day 0f February, 1871. Y
SANDFORD A. PERKINS. Witnesses:
