Description

R. B. ELLEDGE.
ESK.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 22, 1920.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921.
ATTORNEY WITNSS:
Application filed November 22,; 1920. Serial No. 425,820.
T0 aZZ whom it mag concern I 1 i Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. ELLEDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Desks, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a desk attachment for beam scales or the like.
My object is to produce a'desk attachment of this character whichmay be easily attached to the beam of a scale or other sup port and firmly'secured thereon.
A further object is the construction of a desk which may be-in the nature of a plate that has its edges reinforced, certain of the reinforcements providing means whereby the desk may be removably attached \to 'a support, another of said reinforcing means properly sustaining a clip on the desk plate whereby note sheets may be sustained thereon, while the desk plate is provided with additional means for also retaining the said sheets thereon.
The foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts, such as is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of, the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken in a line with one of the reinforcements for one of the edges of the desk plate, the said reinforcement also providing means for sustaining the desk plate on the support. said section being approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the spring sheet retainer.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the clip and reinforcing rod at the lower portion of i the body plate.
While I have illustrated my improved de tachable and reversible desk applied to the bottom of an ordinary platform scales. and for which purpose it is primarily devised, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to such application, as the same may be found convenient in connection with devices other than scales. In each event, however, the desk is attached to a suitable support.
may be readily removed from DESK.
Specification of Lett rs Patent. P t nt d- A 1 92 The upper beam of a scale is indicated,
in the drawing, by the numeral 1. This beam has its sides provided with oppositely disposed spaced pairs of apertures'2.
. My improved removable and reversible desk may be wholly constructed of metal. The desk includes abodyfplate 3 that has its ends and edges rolled to provide beads. Passing through the beads are reinforcing rods. The rods that pass through the end ROBERT 13. ELLEDGE, orv TAMPA, FLORIDA.
beads are indicatedby the numeral 4,- the same extending below the body plate and havingangleyends which provide hooks5. The hooks are designed to be received in the apertures 2 on-one of the sidesof the beam 1. The upper portions of therods dare rounded upon themselves and extend angularly' ,over the rear of the body, plate3.
These angle extensions are indicatedby-the.
numeral .6. The portions 6 are designed to exert a tension toward the portions a. The port ons 6, ad3acent to the outer ends thereof are bent at a further outward angle, asindicated by the numeral 7, and from thence are bent inwardly, as at 8, to provide hooks that are arranged opposite the hooks 5. These last mentioned hooks 8 are designed to be arranged in the apertures on'theside of the beam opposite those receiving the hooks 5, and by this arrangement, it will be noted that the body plate 3 is sustained at "an up ward angle on the beam, and is effectively 7 clamped thereto. It will,-of course, be apparent that by spreading the limb 6, of the spring reinforcing rod 4, outward with respect to the body plate, the hooks'8 and 5 the openings in the side faces of the beam.
In the lower bead provided by the rolled portion of the plate 3, there is a reinforc- V ing rod 9, and in the upper bead there is a reinforcing rod 10.
The lower'bead has its end The sheets of paper engaged by the spring clip 11 will be effectively held against the body plate. However, to support theupper portions of the letter sheets, I pivotally secure, as at 14, adjacent one of the upper corners of the said body plate, a spring rod 12. This rod has .Qn 'Of 19$ Q ldS bent upon itself contacting with the outer face of the body plate, but-is from thence extended at an outward angle to provide an eye 18 through which the pivot memberrla passes. The rod is de signed to exert a tension toward the body plate. 7 i.
In addition to providing means for sup porting the lower edges of the paper'sheets on the desk, the clip 4 may serve as a pocket or receptacle for a writing'implement, and while I have, in the drawings, shown the device supported vertically on the beam 1, it will be apparent that the same maybe supported horizontally, ifdesired. The device, as illustrated, is arranged at a slight inclination with respect to the beam 1,cand does not in any way interfere with the reading of the scale.
It is believed that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings, will fully set forth the simplicity and advantages of the improvement without further detailed description.
Having thus described'the invention, what I claim, is
1. In combination with a supportqhaving' apertures on both sides thereof, of a removable desk therefor, comprising a platehaving rolled edges and ends, reinforcing rods therein, the rods in the ends extending above and below the plate and having their lower ends bent angularly to'provide hooks that enter the apertures on one side of the support, the upper ends of the said rods being rounded and extended over the rear end of the plate and having their lower portions bent outwardly and from thence bent inprising a plate having rolled edges and ends,
reinforcing rods in the said rolled portions, the end reinforclng rods extending through the corners of the plate andhaving their lower portions inturned to provide hooks which enter the apertures onone of the sides of the support, the upper ends of the said rods being rounded upon themselves and extended angularly from the rear of the plate and having their ends bent inwardly to provide hooks which are disposed opposite the first mentioned hooks and which enter the apertures on the second side of-the support,
said plate at its lower" rolled end having; an angular extenslon which provides a spring clip, and a spring rod disposed over the face of theplate and'having one of its ends pivotally secured adjacent one of the corners of the plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
