- HAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a hose supporter, the principal object of the invention being to provide a plate having an opening therein for receiving the stocking engaging clip and elastic means for drawing the clip to the upper end of the opening to stretch thestocking.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of members provided with means for holding them in engagement with each other for adjusting the length of the garter.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. v

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and 1n which Figure l is a perspective View of the round type of garter.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive the supporting or main plate is indicated at 1 and said plate is formed with a slot 2 to receive the garter strip 3. This slot 2 1s 1nclined, as shown, and opposite this slot an Fig. 2 is a face view of the supporting opening 4 is formed in the plate which is formed of two oblong slots, one being longer than the other and connected. together by a tapered opening between them. This opening 4 is adapted to receive the clip 5 which is secured to the other end of the garter strip so as to hold the garter on the'leg. The clip 5 is formed with a pair of slotstherein leavinga central bar to which the end of the garter strip is secured. The clip is pressed through the long part of the opening 4 and then the strain on the garter will pull it through the tapered part into the short part. To remove the garter the clip is seized between the fingers and moved toward the inner enlarged end of the opening 4 and passed through the long part of the opening to free the clip from the plate.

The means .for holding the stocking to the plate consists of a clip 6 made similar to the clip 5 and attached to a short piece of elastic 7 which has its other end secured to the top of the plate by being passed throughtheslot 8 formed in said top. An opening 9 of the same shape of opening 4 is formed in the lower part of the plate with the long slot adjacent the bottom of the plate. The clip 6 is engaged with part of the stocking and then the clip is forced through the lower end of opening 9 and strip 7 will then pull the clip to the inner end of the opening as said strip is made of such a length that it has to be stretched to run the clip through the lower part of said opening. It will thus be seen that the stocking is securely attached by said clip to the plate and it will be stretched somewhat as the elastic strip 7 pulls the clip to the upper part of the opening 9.

The means for adjusting the length of the I garter strip comprises the plates 10 and 11,

each plate being slotted to permit the garter strip to be threaded therethrough. The plate 11 is of greater width than the other plate and is provided with an opening 12 formed with the shoulders 13. The garter 10 has been adjusted to thedesired position a portion thereof is passed through the slot 12 in plate 11 with portions of its under face engaging the shoulders 13 as shown in Fig. 6. Thus the parts will be held against movement. l/Vhen the garter is being used the two plates will be pressed together.

Inthe modification shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the plate 1 is provided with a slot 2 at its upper end to receive the loop 14: of the garter strip 15 which is formed by the two plates 10 and 11' as before explained. The plate is also provided with a small slot 16 which is immediately below the slot 2' and the elastic strip 7 engages the strip of the plate between the slots 2 and 16. This strip 7 carries the clip 6 which engages the opening 9, these parts being similar to the stocking holder means before described. This second arrangement is intended for use where the garter is attached to a corset. In the modification shown in Fig. 9 I provide a pair of slots 8' in the central part of the plate to receive elastic strip 7 which car-. ries the clip 6. This construction is preferable to that shown in Figs. 1, Qand 3 as in this latter construction the elastic strip will not be interfered with by the garter strip.

It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a holding plate having an opening therein formed with wide ends, a stocking engaging clip adapted to be passed through said opening with a part of the stocking, an elastic strip at the rear of the plate for connectingthe said clip to the upper part of the plate the lower part of the strip extending through the opening when the clip is in holding position, said strip tending to hold the clip at the inner end of the opening and a garter strip attached to the plate.

2. A device of the class described comprising a holding plate having an opening therein formed with wide ends with its central portion having upwardly converging walls, a holding clip for holding thestocking in said opening by being passed through said opening with ,a part of the stocking and an elastic strip connecting said strip to the up per part of the plate said strip passing to the rear of the plate and having apart extending through the opening when the clip is in holding position, and a garter strip connected with said plate.
