WATCH-HOLDER.

To all whom it'may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY T. HOFFMAN,

. a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairview, in the county of Major and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new I watches and the like, and it comprises a clamp or other means for securing the holder to a belt or pocket, a holder hingedly secured thereto, a spring normally maintaining said holder in position, said holder comprising a container shaped to receive a watch, and a retaining ring adapted to be placed on said holder when the watch is in position to prevent displacement thereof.

In the present invention, I provide a case of metal or other suitable material which may be padded with cloth, leather, or other cushioning material affording a non-conductor of electricity and protecting the watch from breakage. The device is so'constructed that the face of the watch is exposed to per mit the user to see the time without removing the watch from the pocket or the holder.

Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates a belt or the edge of a garment to which the device is attached. As stated, the clamp may be sl1pped over the edge of any garment, over the edge of the pocket of a garment, or over a belt. tion, the portion 3 and the body portion forming a clamp for the reception of the garment or garment edge to which the device is secured (see Figs. 3 and 4). A sleeve 4 surrounds the lower portion 5 of the clampmg element forming a hinge. A

The container is provided with packing 10 of suitable material such as cloth or leather which serves the combined function of cushioning to prevent breakage of the watch and also as'a nonconductor of electricity. A retaining ring 11 is arranged 011 the holder after the watch is placed in position, and this ring prevents displacement of the watch, the opening in the ring being smaller than the size of the watch as shown in the drawings. 13 and 14 of the clamp and adapted to be positioned in front of the watch when the holder is in its normal position. This plate is provided with a packing strip 15 against which the crystal of the watch bears. A spring 16 is arranged over the sleeve 4, being coiled at each side astshown, and having a connecting section 17 which bears against the bracket member 6 to normally maintain the watch and holder in the position shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In use, the device affords a holder for a watch which may be used by workmen without stopping to remove the watch from the pocket when the user desires to know the time. The face of the watch is always in. view and is protected from breakage by the cross plate 12 and packing strip 15 arranged over the center of the face of the watch. The device may be readily secured to any garment by slipping the edge of the garment between the body portion 2 of the clamp and the extended portion 3, and the watch and holder are normally maintained in proper position by the spring.

It is to be understood that while I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A watch holder comprising a substantially rectangular clamping element having a portion thereof arranged adjacent the body portion to form a clamp, a hinge an ranged on the other end of said clamping element, a bracket secured to said hinge, a casing secured to said bracket, said. casing being shaped to receive a watch, a plate connecting the sides oi said clamping element and arranged intermediate its ends, and a spring arranged on said hinge and engaging said bracket to normally maintain said casing in a position behind said plate.

2. In a watch holder, a support comprising a pair of parallel side members, a hinge arranged between the lower ends of said parallel side members, a seoara'ble casing connected with said hinge and adapted to receive a watch, a plate connected between opposite sides of said support, a cushion menr ber carried by said plate, and resilient means for normally holding the crystal of the watch against said cushion member.

3. A Watch holder comprising a casing shaped to receive a watch, said casing being provided with a peripheral opening for the stem of the watch, a retaining ring adapted to be arranged on said casing when a watch is positioned therein to retain the watch within the casing, a support, a hinge carried by said support, said casing being connected with said hinge, and resilient means for normally maintaining said casing adj acent said support.

4. A watch holder comprising a substantially inverted U shaped support formed of a single piece of wire having its upper portion doubled back upon itself to form a clamp, a hinge member mounted between the ends of said wire support, a casing shaped to receive a watch, means for maintaining a watch in said casing, a bracket carried by said casing and having its lower end turned about said hinge member, and a spring having portions turned about said hinge pin on opposite sides of said bracket, the central portion of said spring being adapted to contact said bracket, the ends oi. said spring being adapted to bear againstsaid support.
