Description

L N. AMANS.
DEVICE FOR TIGHTENING IWI RE CABLES. APPLmAnoN FILED MAR-2'3, 1920.
ltfimfi o Emma Mar. 29, 11921 starts LOUIS N. MEANS, OF ALBERTON, MONTANA.
DEVICE FOR TlGrI-ITENING WIRE CABLES.
Application filed March 23, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Lewis N. AMANs, a citizen of the United States, residing at r'llberton, in the county of Mineral and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Device for Tightening l/Vire Cables, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of my invention to provide a novel wire stretcher which is easily attached, economical to manufacture, and which will stand the strain of tightening a cable and at the same time allow the cable to twist and turn. I attain these and other objects 01" my invention by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention;
2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals designate like parts in each of the views. 7
Referring to the accompanying drawings, provide handles or frames 1 and 2, connected by pivot 23. Members 1 and 2 are provided with openings 4 at their ends, by which tney are attached to links 5, which in turn are attached to link 6, to which is attached a swivel hook 7. Detachably mounted on the other ends of members 1 and 2 I provide blocks 8, which may. be of any suitable size adaptedfor use with cables of different sizes, and secured to members 1 and 2 by suitable fastening pins or rivets 9. Blocks 8 are provided with tapering or wedge shaped sockets 11 extending longi- Specification of Letters Patent.

tudinally of the face of the blocks. The sockets 11 are narrowest at the on r ends of the blocks, as illusfl" t l ir Q. Mounted in tne tapering sockets l are wedge shaped aw members 1, shaped to fit iugly in sockets 11 and having a series 01" suitable teeth 12 extending longitudinally of their faces to engage the wire cable i-l in the manner illustrated in l. T he sides 13 of the wedge shaped jaws 10 or dovetail sha ie, as shown in 3, to prevent the jaws from working loose or dropping out. In consequence of the peculiar shape of the wedge shaped l0 and the manner of mounting them in blocks 8, they will engage more tightly in the blocks the harder the wire cable is pulled. providing the swivel 7 connected with the links that are attached to tne ends of the handles or frames 1 and 2, the cable is permitted to twist and turn without turning the jaws or blocks. The construction of the device is such as to make it economical to manufacture and it is easily applied in stretching trolley wires and cables.
F7 hat ll claim is:
In a device of the c. c bination of crosses. frames, bloclis pivota bed, the comy connectee 1 y mounted on the 0p sockets, said sockets in cross section, and
cabie engaging ted in the sockets or ing forward l corresponcin jaws detacha' said blocks.
