Description

1.,POLLARD. DETACHABLE BUTTON.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 22, I920.
1,372,449. Patentd Mar 22, 1921.
JEAN POLLARD, OF KILLINEY, IRELAND.
DETACHABLE BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent. M Pate t d Ma 2 1921 Application filed June 22, 1920. Serial No. 390,728.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN POLLARD, married woman, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Rose Cottage, K1111- ney, Co. Dublin, Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Detachable Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to detachable buttons applicable to garter connections or suspenders or the like, and has for its ob ect to provide means whereby such buttons are easily detached from their base plate or base plate stud and are therefore more readlly renewable without the necessity of purchasing new garter connections or the like with their accompanying new buttons, and thus economy in expenditure is attained and time and trouble are saved; and such detachable buttons may be sold on cards or in bulk for renewal purposes as and when requlred.
According to my invention, said detachable buttons applicable to garter buckles or suspenders or the like, consist of a detachable head adapted to form a button which is easily detached from the usual base plate or garter buckle and is so adapted as to facilitate renewal of worn buttons as and when required without renewing the buckle or suspender or like connection .as is usual as a matter of course owing to the former cheapness of the accompanying parts.
In the prior art it has been proposed to apply to garter buckles or the like, fixed and headed studs provided with permanently fixed heads formed out of soft rubber or other soft material holed and recessed to form a button which in turn is adapted to be sprung over the corresponding headed stud which is fixed in the usual base plate or garter buckle.
In carrying my present invention into practice, 1n one convenient form I provide a detachable stud with rubber or other soft covered material adapted to form a button applicable to the garter buckle or suspender or the like. In another form I provide a shouldered stud covered with rubber or other soft material, and having a spring head adapted to be easily attached to or de tached from the garter buckle or suspender or the like.
In order that my said inventlon 1n its practical form may be understood, the same is more fully described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying explanatory drawing.
In the drawing, Figure 1 shows a sectional elevation of one form of the detachable button as applied to a garter buckle or suspender or the like; and Fig. 2, is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified form of the invention.
In Fig. 1, the detachable button consists of a screwed sleeve 1 covered with rubber or other soft material adapted to form a button 2 and by means of the sleeve 1 adapted to be screwed onto a corresponding stud 3 which at 4 is attached to the garter buckle or suspender 5 in such a manner that said button is readily attachable or detachable as and when required. The screwed stud 3 is waisted to fit into the garter buckle 5 or the like, and at 6 is riveted over. The sleeve 1 is headed at 7 to secure the button 2. The buckle or suspender 5 is of the known kind provided with slots for attaching thereto in the known manner the flexible material 8 which in turn is connected in the known manner to another buckle of the known kind such as 9 which in turn is provided with the usual clasp 10 adapted to secure in the known manner the end of the stocking or the like on the button 2.
In a modification, the screwed sleeve 1, Fig. 2, has its end 1 cut short of the immediate side of garter buckle or suspender 5 so that the corresponding end of the button 2 is caused to press tighter against this immediate side of the buckle or suspender 5, thus producing a better binding or looking effect on the sleeve 1 and the button 2 with the garter buckle or suspender 5 as the button and sleeve are tightened up.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A button comprising a base plate, a shank member secured to the base plate, a sleeve adapted to engage with the said shank, and a flexible cover member on the said sleeve to form a button thereon.
2. A button comprising a base plate, a screw threaded shank secured in the base plate, a tapped sleeve member adapted to be received on the screw threaded shank, and a flexible cover member on the tapped sleeve adapted to form a button thereon.
3, A button comprising a base plate, a the surface of the base plate to frictionally 10 screw threaded shank secured in the base maintain the parts in their assembled relaplate, a tapped sleeve adapted to be engaged tionship.
With the screw threaded shank, and a'fiexi- Signed by me this 4th day of June, 1920. ble cover surrounding the tapped sleeve and extending beyond the inner end of the same JEAN POLLARD. so that when the sleeve is engaged with the Witnesses: I shank and turned to place thereon the inner V. MURUs, side of the fiexiblecover will engage with H. BAICHWILLIAM.
