gagement by a latch bar 26 movable vertically through a guide 27 fiXed on the door. The upper end of this latch 'bar has pivotal connection with a latch'lever 28 pivoted at Vone end by a suitable pivot 29 to the door.
This latch lever moves behind a guide or cover plate 30 and behind this coverl plate are located spaced spring plunger-s 3l which are selectively engaged in a recess 32 formed in the latch lever so that the lever may-be held in desired position. In the present instance I provide two of these p'lungers,
one to hold the lever in the position shown at A in Fig. 3 and the other to hold it in the position shown at B in such figure. InV
the positionshown at A the door is locked from all movement by engagement of the latch bar in one of the openings in that shown at B the latch bar is drawn up sufiiciently to release from the opening and permit the door to slidebut still will prejee downward behind theV flange of' the Z-bar guide thus preventing` swinging of the bot- Y tom. In the position C the' latch bar is raised sufficiently to clear the top'oil the Z-bar flange and thus permits swinging movement of the door as well as sliding movement thereof. In order to hold the door` locked a keeper 33 is provided on the door jamb so that when the lever 281is engaged in the keeper it may be held down by an ordinary car seal 3 4 passed through a suitable opening 35 in the keeper.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and 'for the purpose specified. Y
Itis obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction fof the invention without departing from tno material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to thev exact form hereiny shown and described butl it is wished to include all suehpas come Awithinthe scope claimed. I claim: c
l l. In combination, a door support, a doeiI dependent from and slidablealong saidsupport, said door being arranged for swinging Vmovement of .its lower edge transverse the path of'its sliding movement, and a single latch means arranged to selectively permit and restrain sliding movement of the door and to selectively permit full swinging movement, prevent allswinging movement and permit limited swinging movement of said door. i
2. In combination, a door frame, a door supportingA member extending along the door frame near its upper end, a sliding door suspended from said member and having its bottom edge free to swing to and ,from the frame, a guide rail below the bottom` edge of the door and. provided with latch receiving openings, said guide'rail having an upstanding fiange at its outer edge, and a latch bar mounted oii the door and engageable selectively in said openings, said latch bar having a vertical amplitude of movement to permit such engagement, to
Vlie behind the fiange andpermit 'sliding from the fraine,a guide 4rail below the bot-v tom edge of the door and provided with latch receiving openings, said 'guide rail having an upstaiiding flange at its outer edge, a latch bar mounted on the door and engageable selectively in said openings, said Vlatch bar having a vertical amplitude of movement topermit such engagement, to liebeliind the fiangeand permit sliding movement of the door "while preventing swinging movement thereof and to be raised Yabove the flange and permit both sliding and swinging movement of' the door, a latch lever pivoted to Vthe door and having the latch bar pivoted between its ends,V a guide for the free end of thelatch lever, and means toY selectively and kreleasablyY hold the latch leverina plurality of desired positions.
In testimony whereoiI `affix my signature.
