FOLDING BOOK-STOP.
Specification of Letters Yatent.
Patented ltIar. 1, 1921.
Application filed Ill-lay 4, 1920. Serial No. 378,725.
7'0 (.1??- whom it may concern i known that I, LARRY BURZYNSKT,
ion of the United States, residing at n in t ccouiny of Dane and State .sconsin, have invented certain new and Improvements in Folding Book- Stops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for use on library tables, book shelves, counters, desks and the like, to support books in rows, and has for one of its objects to provide a device of this character constructed from a sheetof cardboard out to form the desired article when folded, and which may thus be shipped knocked down or in flat form and bent Into the required shape.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and descrioed and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of the improved device from front and rear.
3 is a perspective view of the improved device partly folded,
Fig. i is a view of the blank from which the im; roved device is produced.
Th improved device is formed from a singl sheet of relatively heavy card board of a texture which may be bent into the required shape without breaking.
T he completed device is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the blank from which the device is constructed is shown in Fig. 4.
The blank shows a main body portion divided into three portions 10, 11 and 12 by scoring lines 13 and 14, the portion constituting the front, the portion 11 the sloping back, and the portion 12 the inner bottom or inner base of the device when folded.
Extending from the opposite sides of the back portion 11 and divided therefrom by scoring lines 15 and 16, are V- shaped projections 17 and 18 which form the sides of the device when folded. Projecting respectively from the side portions 17 and 18 and divided therefrom by scoring lines 19 and 20 are wing members 21, 22.
Projecting from the side portion 18 and separated therefrom by a scoring line 23, is an oblong portion 24., which constitutes the outer bottom or outer base of the device when folded, and extending from one end of the portion 21 is a foot or supporting ring 25 which is designed to extend beneath the books which rest against the front portion 10, as hereafter explained.
There is no scoring line between the portions 24.- and 25. Projecting from the outer bottom portion 24; and divided therefrom by a scoring line 26 is a wing 27, having one edge oblique or inclined, as shown.
Projecting from the inner bottom portion 12 and divided therefrom by scoring lines 28 and 29 are other wings 30 and 31, each having one oblique or angular edge, as shown.
With a blank thus constructed and as shown in Fig. 4, the completed device is produced by first bending the wings 21 and 22 at right angles to the side portions 17 and 18 and the wings 30 and 31 at right angles to the inner bottom portion 12, and the side portions 17 and 18 at right angles to the front 11.
The front 10 is then bent along the score line 13, against the infolded wings 21 and 22 and the wings 30 and 31 inserted into the space between the sides 17 and 18.
The outer bottom or base 21 is then bent over the inner bottom or base 12 along its score line 23 with the wing 27 inserted between the wing 30 and the side 17.
This leaves the foot portion 25 extending at right angles to the front 10, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The device thus constructed is compact and sutliciently rigid to serve the purpose of a book holder when the foot portion 25 is inserted beneath books at the end of a row, and requires no pasting. or other fastening means to hold the parts in position.
The device can be shipped, knocked down, or in flat form, as shown in Fig. 4, and a plurality of the blanks superimposed and thus occupying comparatively small space, thus saving materially in the expense of shipping.
The back portion 11 and the sides 17 and 18 may be utilized for advertising purposes, or supplied with fanciful or ornamental designs, as. required.
What I claim as new is:
1. A device of the class described, formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a body including foldable front, back and inner bottom portions, foldable side portions extending from the front, a foldable outer top extending from one of the sides and having a rigid foot portion projecting from one end, and foldable lateral from one of the sides and divided therefrom Wings extending from the sides, inner, botby score lines and having a rigid foot p'or tom, and outer bottom portions. tion projecting from one end, and foldable 2. A device of the class described, formed lateral wings extending from the sides, in-
5 from a single sheet ofmaterial and comner bottom, and outer bottom portions, and 15 prising a body including foldable front, divided respectively therefrom by score back, and inner bottom portions, divided by lines. 7 score lines, foldable side portions extending In testimony whereof I affix my signature from the front and divided therefrom by hereto.
10 score lines, a foldable outer top extending LARRY E. BURZYNSKI.
