PSYCHIC GAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application filed March 16, 1920. Serial No. 386,349.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE H. \Vrrrrn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Psychic Games, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to psychic appara tus and has for its object to provide a device for practising psychic demonstrations and especially to provide an improved table or game device, and the invention consists of apsychic device in which there is ar-. ranged in common plane of configuration an entire deck of playing cards in combination with other suitable characters or words. An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described and claimed herein. 7
Figure 1 is a plan view of the face of the game board or device showing in arrangement, representations of common playing cards.
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the usual table such as is used on a ouija board.
The improved device comprises a plane part 2that may represent a sheet of material of any suitable character and finish or a rigid panel or plate member for the top of a table or stand, and there is reproduced by any suitable process on the face of the plane member 2 an entire set of cards of an ordinary playing card deck. These cards are generally designated at C and are shown preferably in the arrangement forming a ring 2 of certain of the cards, this ring being concentric to a center spot 3 and one of the cards known as the Joker designated J is disposed within the ring 2 of cards. The plane member 2 is shown as oblong and slightly wider than the diameter of the ring and sufliciently longer than the diameter of the ring to present at the ends areas for suitable cards arranged in a group extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the plane 2, these groups being designated as at 4 and each comprising three cards, one of each of which is set transverse to the longitudinal axis and in proximity to the outer edge of the circle of cards, and the two other cards of each group are shown as arranged close to the intermediate cards of the group 4;; hence,
the outer cards of-each group are at right angles to the intermediate cards on the longitudinal'axis, which is also a diameter of the circular group 2. In the corner areas of the plane member or surface of the oblong, there are arranged other groups 5 of cards, these groups each consisting of three cards laid with) their longitudinal edges parallel and these cards being arranged with the group formation substantially radial to the center 3 or forming diagonal group portions. Each diagonal group portion is flanked by flanking cards 6 which are arrangedwith their longitudinal edges parallel to the radial'or diagonal groups. The corner groups 5 are shown as comprising each five cards and the side groups four having each three cards, while the circle is shown as including 26 cards.
Obviously, the groupingof card figures may be arranged as desired and the various cards may be individually placed at any determined points in the entire assembly; the present organization being shown for illustrative purposes.
All of the cards of the series, except the face cards, have aldesignated significance in practice with thispsychicdevice and the signifying value is evidenced by the words placed on the respective cards, such words being indicated at 7, a few of which will be mentioned, such, for instance, as in the four of spades which is labeled with the words Evil intentions, and the two of diamonds, which is designated"Go0d luck,
while the big casino is designated as lVealth.
To further enhance the psychic utility of this game the usual characters commonly found on a ouija board is also combined in the present game, and the Arabic numerals 1 to O, inclusive, are shown at 10, while the alphabet is shown at 11. Certain other familiar words or word combinations are shown, such, for instance, as the phrase Do not know, which is designated at 12, and the words Good bye at 13, and the words Yes and No at 1 1 and 15 respectively.
From the above it will be seen that when the ordinary ouij a table T, Fig. 2, is placed on the plane member 2 in the usual manner it may be shifted or guided by the influence from one position to another and will possibly in moving from letter to letter of the alphabet 11 spell out an answer or signal and may move into juxtaposition with the digits of the group 10 or may be directed to one or another of the various cards of the deck illustrated on the plane surface 2. From the above it will be seen that by the combination of the well known deck of playing cards arranged so as to be plainly in view a messa e may be expeditiously transmitted and interpreted with far greater rapidity and clearness than is possible with the ordinary Combination of letters and figures common to psychic devices, such as the ouija board..
Various changes may be made without departing fromthe spirit of my invention, as claimed.
- I claim: I
1. A psychic device comprising an indicating plane surface having thereon the symbols common to a deck of playing cards,
the individual cards of the deck being arranged in predetermined order about a com mon point on the board, certain individual cards of the deck having other signifying means, and other symbols comprising Arabic numbers, and an alphabet.
2. A psychic device comprising an indicating plane surface having thereon the symbols common toa deck of playing cards, the individual cards of the deck being arranged in predetermined order about a common point on the board, certain individual cards of the deck having other signifying means, and other symbols comprising Arabic numbers and the common alphabet.
3. A psychic device comprising an indieating plane surface and having thereon the symbols common to a deck of playing cards, certain individual cards of the deck having 7 additional means of indicia thereon, the in dividual cards of the deck being arranged in a circle about a common center, and in groups about said circle.
'4. A psychic device comprising an indicating plane surface and having thereon the symbols common to a deck of cards, certain individual cards of the deck having addi tional means of indicia thereon, the individual cards of the deck being arranged in a circle about a common center, and in groups about the periphery of said circle, said groups comprising four cornergroups and two intermediate groups.
5. A psychic device comprising an indicating plane surface and having thereon the symbols common to a deck of cards, certain individual cards of the deck having additional-means of indicia thereon, the individual cards of the deck being arranged in a circle about a common center, and :in groups about the periphery of said circle, said' groups comprisingfour corner groups and two intermediate groups, the corner groups each consistingof three juxtaposed cards with their longitudinal edges tangential to the periphery of the circle'and two flanking cards with their longitudinal edges parallel with the end edges of the three cards, and the intermediate groups each consistingof one card with its longitudinal edge tangential to the periphery of the circle and two flanking cards at right angles thereto.
6. A psychic device comprising an indicating plane surface and having thereon the symbols common to'a deck of cards, certain individual cards of the/deck having additional means of indicia thereon, the individual cards of the deck being arranged in a circle about a common center, and in groups about the periphery of said circle, said groups comprising four corner groups and two intermediate groups, the corner groups each consisting of three juxtaposed cards with their longitudinal edges tangential to the periphery of the circle and two flanking cards with their longitudinal edges parallel with the end edges of the three cards, and the intermediate groups each consisting of one card with its longitudinal edge tangential to the periphery of the circle and two flanking cards at right angles thereto, and other symbols comprising Arabic numbers and an alphabet arranged about the cards.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
